There are ways of going about this in a very limited way even now.

I'll listen to whatever comes out, I don't feel like it has any effect on how much I enjoy an album in the long-term.

I like having the artwork and lyrics (if printed) and all that stuff. It's the way I've always done it.
Besides, it ain't nothin' but muuuuusic.
I totally understand the thought, and i did it with Backspacer, but that was 4 years ago now

, if they get a quick turn around on another album (less then two years) then i will join back up with the anti leak club, but I've already waited longer then i wanted to
I'm just not someone who cares about time between albums. Doesn't mean anything to me. Doesn't alter my level of excitement in any way.
Also, I'm an old fart. I've spent most of my life not listening to leaks. It's really easy to pretend they don't exist.

Pearl jam music is all i buy anymore before i illegally download
Honestly, I rarely purchase any "major act" music anymore, or even download it.
Most of the acts I listen to are at least semi unknown (Lucero, Tim Barry, Otis Gibbs, Cory Branan, John Moreland, etc) so I always make sure and purchase the CD or vinyl, and often a t-shirt, due to the fact that these guys actually need that money to tour....

So if Pearl Jam inexplicably went broke. You'd buy their next album before downloading it?

No. That's not an "apples to apples" comparison.

It wasn't meant to be. I'm just trying to understand your rationale.

My rationale is, PJ will get my money if they put out a quality product. They've made tons of money and continue to.
The other bands/artists I mentioned are often touring in a van, selling $10 CDs and $15 tshirts to be able to tour, pay for fuel and eat.
When they start playing arenas and selling $70 tickets and $35 tshirts, I will regard them differently.

I'll always support independent artists. But I'll also support bigger acts that I love in the same way.

This type of fandom is always appreciated by artists.

Hey man, you change my life and help steer the course of my taste and preferences for 20 + years, the least I can do is buy an album and a T-shirt.

For pj i usually buy the cd, vinyl and a poster for all the shows, but like i said, pj is the only band whose music i buy first, the rest i make sure i like it, then i spend money on music or merch after I've bought a concert ticket

Agreed. Though I'll readily admit I do illegally download music, very often to try out things I wouldn't have necessarily paid for otherwise, I feel there's a greater principle at work than "hey, don't you guys have
enough money already?" If an artist's work has given me a lot of enjoyment over a significant period of time, I'm generally more than happy to pay their asking price for their future work.

I got over the whole concert t-shirt thing a few years ago. My first one is from the Yield tour in '98. Since then I've accumulated about 50 odd t-shirts from different bands (quite a few PJ ones).
It got to a point where each shirt would have the same cycle:
1) Go to concert and spend $45 on a t-shirt.
2) Wear t-shirt at the concert proudly.
3) Wear t-shirt for a couple of occasions for the week after the concert, where friends would say 'oh cool, did you go to the concert'.
4) Stop wearing t-shirt.
5) Realise that I paid $45 to wear a t-shirt 3 times.
6) Try not to cry.
7) Cry.
The t-shirts are now just sitting in a pile in my music room.

I completely agree with this. I've been known to download and/or borrow and/or stream music I don't know to see if I like it. A perfect example is Tom Waits. But once I realized I loved his stuff, I started buying it. And I'll gladly see him live if he tours again. And I'll surely buy a t-shirt, too.
