this song ended up being prophetic. johnny and june recorded/performed this song many, many times over the years - but this was the last version they recorded, in 1999, and their age and weariness comes through in their vocals. june died in 2003, four months before johnny, and i remember listening to this version of the song shortly after johnny passed, in my car on a long drive back to my college's town, and it broke me. i'd listened to the various versions of their duet a lot, including this one, and i certainly had heard the words they sang. yet in those three minutes in my car that day, with the circumstances of their passing so fresh in my mind, those words - as hopeful and love-filled as they are - brought a sadness onto me like very few songs ever had. it's one of the most powerful music listening experiences i've ever had.
day 5 - song that reminds you of someone

Day 4 - Sad. Tough to choose.
Day 5 = Someone. Cheezy song but it fit a moment and person in time perfectly.
Day 6 - Somewhere. Memories of a momentous day in Moab. Riding Poison Spider, the big sky above, miles of gnarl ahead, something like 14 water bottles and this song. Probably my best day riding ever.
