When I started this thread, i was thinking more "Sabbath" metal, and less "posion/l.a. guns" metal. Anyhow.

Not much of it as good, however.

I like a couple of Mudvayne, System of a Down Avenged Sevenfold songs. Do they count?

This is why I find it difficult to talk about metal music with people who like it. Generally they like all the bands I don't.

When I mentioned metal since Sabbath I wasn't really talking about Nu-Metal but hey, have at it!

There is definitely shit metal, but there is shit music in all genres. I'm no metal head but I do like some metal / hard rock.
Iron Maiden, especially the first 2 albums are fantastic. Metalica's first 4 albums are al damn near flawless, and Anthrax had some really good songs back in the day. If we expand to hard rock, then AC/DC with Bon Scott (+ Brian Johnson's first 3 albums) is pretty damn good.

It's weird b/c I remember in the 80's that a lot of the metal guys thought they were so bad ass, then stuff like "Jesus Christ Pose" came out which was better AND heavier then pretty much anything the metal guys were doing.

No but Type O has covered Cinnamon Girl - I guess that's a connection.
