Sucks because Malloy has by far the most interesting team but with the least mass appeal or re-watchability.

I believe you. But I'm just not familiar enough with his picks. Those that I do know, I fucking love and think are fantastic selections (looking at you Madeline Kahn!).

But I do think Burt's team really picked up steam. At the end of the day he has a solid team. I'm not sure he still wouldn't have gotten my vote even knowing more of Malloy's picks.

I'm not familiar with all of them (adding Addition to my list!) but I agree that even if they were more well-known, it's hard to imagine being like, "Yes, today I want to re-watch Jeanne Deilman and Persona." Great films, way more interesting than The Matrix or fucking Fury Road, but very arthouse. So I guess I should say, Malloy has the most interesting team in terms of distance from the other picks, but actually isn't super diverse in itself. I really don't care for Burt's team but if I'm thinking of this as like, which slate of films would I most want to be stuck watching for the rest of my life, Malloy has some limitations.

How is The Matrix not interesting? Super ambitious script and unreal atmosphere. That movie really shook things up back in 1999!

I didn't say The Matrix isn't interesting, I said Persona is more interesting, which is true (though Wild Strawberries or the Seventh Seal probably plays better). I like The Matrix a lot and it's very representative of the 90s but I wouldn't put it in the top ten of the decade.

Fury Road is not particularly interesting.

I've actually never seen any of the Mad Max films.

Initially I thought Anna Kendrick's cameo was off putting and she seemed totally out of place in the wasteland, but on repeat viewings she really added a lot to the film.

I also read somewhere that Annie Lennox wrote all of the Doof Warrior's guitar parts.

I prefer her gratuitous unsimulated sex scenes

Gimmick list or not, I'd probably put Fury Road and The Road Warrior in the top 5 action movies of all time list. My only problem is choosing which one I love more.

The odd thing is I normally find car chases to be incredibly boring, but George Miller is just too good.

Mad Max is fine for what it is, but it's not really necessary. They are all stand alone films. The only real continuity is that the world becomes more bleak and hopeless with each successive movie.

That's good to know. I can't imagine going back to the original films at this point. But Fury Road is interesting to me. I've known more than a few people who seem to think I'd really like it. The cast is great. I'll get to it one of these days.
