if this means Ed will play less guitar, that could be cool for his singing but otherwise its weird.
I think that reading between the lines, he's also possibly a guitar tech or similar. They certainly don't need him on anything pre-Gigaton, and even then his role is limited.
He skeeves me out. Perhaps irrational, but I'm immediately skeptical of anyone who's made it their career to support touring acts as a hired gun, while simultaneously trying to soak up some of the limelight. To clarify: I have no issue with touring/studio musicians getting paid money to play someone else's part. But for JK, it's always felt like a stepping stone to fame for him, rather than something he's just doing for the sheer joy of doing it...
As evidence, I just look at his stint in RHCP. He came on and immediately tried to ape Frusciante's parts. And while I unabashedly love pre-JK RHCP's music, I have a hunch they're all kind of scummy people (or at least 1-2 of them).
There's just something starfucky about him that's never sat right with me, and it's probably not fair of me to say that because there's not a single incident I'd point to, but just more of a general sense.
I bet Spenno knows what I'm putting down.
He was side stage with RHCP before john left so maybe hes the new apprentice ready to step in for Stone when he quits in 2022.

( I was gonna say Mike, but its more offensive if I use stone)
I like his albums with John Frusciante, His era with RHCP was a bit stale, but I appreciate he seemed to encouraged them to shake up their live sets and play older songs/teasers. I'm not sure he really is required for PJ. Seems like Ed probably just trying to hook up a friend like he did with Boom. We will find out in the boots maybe, If hes audible..
(Side note: I haven't liked the sound of the bootlegs since 06, and I'm Pro Boom)

when I made my first comment ITT I was confusing this Josh with Josh Evans, but I still stand by the statement; if they want to collab with other musicians it's all good, I'm just happy they've apparently moved on from BoB

I'm pretty bad at Pearl Jam puns, but Bammer, do you just put random words into the title of random songs?

The more I think about it, the more I'm ok with it - kind of like introducing a puppy to an old dog (or Billy Preston helping the Beatles). Shake up the dynamic and breathe life into older songs.

There was no noticeable difference with him on stage, and frankly he was behind the amps so you really couldn’t see much of him. If he is responsible for helping on the looping machine during Dance then he has had a major positive impact already. That was one of the coolest moments of the show on Saturday night.

He is still basically wearing a John Frusciante costume - or they really do just manage to be incredibly thin individuals with baggy clothing that hangs the exact same way.

In other words, he is the new Adrian Belew.
Trag doesn't like it, but I can dig it.

Yeah, he still played on all of the songs he always has, as well as 7 O'Clock and Never Destination.
