I was starting to put this together this morning. To do a single elimination tournament (randomized each round) with three song first round brackets there needs to be 192 songs. My usual starting tournament list has about 230. I am going to exclude the following songs. If there are alternate cases to be made you have a week to persuade me.


From studio albums: Master/Slave, Pry To, Stupid Mop, Hummus

Misc other songs: Around and Around, Be Like Wind, Better Things, Chinese, Cready Stomp, Daddy Could Swear, Devil Doll, Don't Believe in Xmas, Evil Little Goal Falling Down, Foldback, Golden State, Harmony, Hunted Down, I just Wanna Have Something to Do, It Ain't like that, I've Got a feeling, Jingle Bells, Just a Girl, Obey the Law of the Heart, Olympic Platinum, Pendulmorphosis, Puzzles and games, Anything in Between, Rock Around Barack, Santa Cruz, Santa God, Thunderclap, Turning Mist, Wild Flowers, Wishing Well, 2000 Mile Blues

The songs from core albums (excepting those above) and Lost Dogs are all in. The non album tracks in the tournament (so adding one of the above requires taking out one of the below): are

Just a Girl and Santa Cruz should be in. Again Today and Sonic Reducer out. Mostly replacing covers with originals.

I'm always in favor of replacing covers with originals.

There are only a finite number of slots. Which songs feel essential, strat?

I thought you were also saying songs like breath, SOLAT, long road, and i got id were out....

The bottom paragraph are in, the top out. I pushed to toss out Again Today because it is a straight cover. Might argue the same for Sonic Reducer. I feel like there are a few in the out pile that belong in.

I see at least 8 songs in the approved list that i’d replace with Hunted Down.

No Olympic Platinum? That song is better than most Pearl Jam songs from the last 3 albums.

Remove the covers from the last section and replace them with originals from the excluded list.
