Need a ‘Commonwealth citizens only’ thread option for times like this.

Burt, what weird opinion do you have about this event?
Complete indifference.

For me it's sad because she's been queen since my parents were born. She's been a part of my families whole life.

I also think you overstate the life of luxury. I certainly would not want to be a monarch. No privacy, everybody in the world recognizes you so you couldn't really go out in the public at all, lots of boring ceremonial duties. In a way the queen is a prisoner of the state.

She had 70 years to dismantle this system that's been so cruelly holding her captive, but never has taken even step one. Now, her weird son is going to be the king

Their royal subjects may try to end it before the coronation. Chuck better get the dragons out to remind them who's in charge.

You're welcome, although I wouldn't say I'm really a royal supporter. I'm generally indifferent towards them and only really care about her death because of what it says about the grim passage of time in my own life (and that of my parents)

I just thought that Jorge was overstating how great a life as queen would be. I think it would be a pretty shitty way to live.

To be clear I didn't say she had a "great life", I said she lived a life of untold luxury. Which is correct. Every insanely wealthy and powerful figure suffers through their own unique forms of ennui. They're still the ruling class, and positioned much more comfortably than anyone who wasn't born into immense wealth and power.

Which isn't to say "she deserves to die because she's a royal!" I'm just putting this grand tragedy into perspective. She lived a long life in a position she clearly cherished and is dying at very old age of natural causes. We all should be so lucky

Who is saying it’s a tragedy? From what I’m seeing people are just saying variations of “gee I’m sad she’s dying.”

My post was in direct response to the post preceding it (Spenno's "very somber news")
