I hate all things Incubus. Fucking awful shitty band. I hope none of them ever record music again.

Oh, no, it's OK. I was looking into this too deeply. I was wondering if there was some narrative context I was missing. I approve of the gif and I don't mind the conversation being derailed. Ever, really.

Unfortunately your wish wasn't granted. I refer you to the OP.

I listened to some of it, then I stabbed my ears, and ruptured my ear drum.

you should probably get that checked out. you've got like ~78 days to get healed.

I would say the Lightning Bolt will heal it, but whether or not you want to wait will depend on your level of faith and I wouldn't blame you for getting genuine medical treatment.

It's just a fuckin great pop record and Brandon's voice is so crisp. Incubus have always been a "neither here nor there" band in terms of their style and quality, so I don't see why it's so shocking that they made this album. Brandon's solo stuff is bad, yes, and Light Grenades isn't a very exciting listen. But Incubus are a great band, and probably the tightest live band I've ever seen.

Some of the jams on INNW are so bare-bones and chilled, it's great. In The Company Of Wolves is a great example, killer track.
I mean it sounds NOTHING like Make Yourself or anything, but it's a great record.
Even given the fact that I hate the music, my worst complaint about this album is that the band just doesn't feature in any interesting way. The music is just a backdrop for Brandon's vocal gymnastics. There were signs on ACLOTM that the band would move in that direction, but it became pretty bad. Jose's drumming skills are virtually non-existent on this album. I can acknowledge that the album is strong melodically, but otherwise it's a Brandon indulgence in my opinion because most of the songs are terrible and the band just doesn't show up.
Yeah I can see how you'd think that but once I got over that I started to really dig it. Jose is so obviously restrained that you can tell he's doing it intentionally. Kilmore does some killer little organ lines. But really I can't imagine Brandon having actually written it all, they're still a band that show up and write shit together and play it together regardless of who's in the limelight. It's just a VERY different album.

Is it a bad sign when I can't even find it on the two most popular torrent sites?

The last Incubus album hit for me at an interesting time in my life so even though I was bummed it didn't seem like a 'true' Incubus album, I felt it was still pretty good. Eddie's uke album came out around the same time and I liked it as well for the same reason - it fit my life at the time.

I'm not totally clear on why the last three words of the title of this thread were deemed necessary.

They were only as necessary as RM itself, friend. Fun and passionate hyperbole.

Brandon Boyd is shitting on music tradition
?

Well I'm sure he does, just not as certain that I want to think about it.

To be fair, I do think the last three words provide some useful specificity.

The "Sons of the sea" album, which i originally didn't listen to.. I've now found to be fascinating.

-Its a Brendan O'Brien/Brandon Boyd album released in the same year as Lighnin' Bolt
-It has something fundamentally broken in the mixing like Lightnin' Bolt

It sounds like when I've been mixing a track until 2am, Drunk/Stoned and too close to the monitors, and I play it back the next day and have to start again..it sounds like its the wrong pitch or the harmonics are broken or something. it has audible clipping and obnoxious compression.

that being said, i love this album! I love all the pianos, xylophones, steel drums, shakers and baselines and even the lyrics. its like a mystical sexual beach holiday..

If I didn't already love incubus, i wouldn't be able to sit through this, but I've never minded how cheesy or/or embarrassing Brandon Boyd can sometimes be.. so if you like incubus and are interested in what BoB was probably way more invested in 2013 than LB then maybe listen to this?

Just for reference, my personal favorite incubus albums are:Fungus/Crow left of the murder/If not now when - so feel free to ignore..
