I installed 2 of these recently, one for the exact reason you give here. The issue we have is that the cats are too fat and useless to get through it unless we leave it a little ajar, and the dog then just noses it aside to sneak upstairs once we are all asleep. I have some plans for this weekend to cut one of the bars out and do a little pottering to fashion a mini cat door within the dog gate.
