While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

The "live" YouTube version and the FLAC version both sound great for slightly different reasons.broken iris wrote:Good god, team. This is not nearly as bad as you all made it out to be. It's not a classic, pink floydy, or logical successor to Black... but it aint Nickleback either. At worst it's Lifehouse, at best it's Heart. Some awkward and un-PJ lyrics in the verses but the rest is decent and the ending with all of them singing works well and should be cool live.

*I've only heard the youtube version, which apparently is not the album version.

There are good things about each version. It's nice to have two versions like with the Chop Suey stuff.broken iris wrote:*I've only heard the youtube version, which apparently is not the album version.

I'll set it at 4.

YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE SIRENS
Honestly i think there's a good song in there somewhere. Maybe if it was recorded during binaural but with current eds singing power. A little more subtle a little stranger....
As it is, ill listen to it if i ever find myself in a 2005 rom-com.

Sirens, I didn't care before you were here.
Earlier on I said how weirdly frustrating it is that on all the fast, heavy songs he tinkles the ride cymbal, but on this he's thrashing around on hi-hats and crashes. I literally don't understand that man.

Que? i'm just saying maybe i would have prefered it that way. I was thinking of you when I wrote it; but all opinions are my own. I need to go to bed before I play this for the 10th time in a row (not counting the two times I watched the video to break it up a bit).harmless wrote:Wait, is this one of my posts?Blenheim Augustine wrote:Even Matt is opening up his hats on this! Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
I was fearing the worst after the first 50 seconds, but then the cheese melts away...
This really is Ed playing to his strengths vocals wise. Singing 'Mother' has rubbed off well on him. There's so much more going on in this song that the 80's power ballad comments suggested.
If this becomes a big hit, I know some folks are going to resent it even more - I for one will be rejoicing that the 'modern rock' masses are finally embracing something with some substance to it

Re: New Song (9.19.13): Sirens
Finally listened to this for the first time. First reaction: Cheap Trick's "The Flame". Glad to see I'm not the first person to hear that.
And every time I hear that upward chord progression in the chorus, I can't help but think of Foo Fighters' "Hey, Johnny Park". (I'm sure other songs have that progression.)
