two thoughts:

- Im very glad i get to see him live, and he did perfect day and walk on the wild side back to back. Great fucking show.

- his last album was that metallica one? maybe he was dead a long time ago.

Is that a dig at Ed or Lou Reed?

That's amazing. I genuinely cannot imagine that salty dog running track. Or.. throwing track.

Like it or not (I don't), that's the work of an artist who refused to live in the past.

I'm bummed.

I used to be a big Lou Reed fan...hell, his show might be one of the best i ever saw. But his recent output was far from his best years, and it was because he was trying to capture what he successfully did in the past among other things.
I will miss him, specially the notion that im not going to see him live again, but my bet is that he stayed in the past a long time ago.

RIP Lou.

I don't think so. I agree that the hit-or-miss ratio of his later work tips heavily towards the miss, but of all the criticisms one can lob at albums like The Raven, Hudson River Wind Meditations, Lulu, or his work with John Zorn, "trying to recapture the past" seems like one of the least valid. Far from his most vital, revolutionary, or even listenable work, but also a far cry from the late-career nostalgia cash-ins you often see from people who attempt to remain relevant this many years into their career.

I don't know how anyone can say they "used to be" a Lou Reed fan that discovered his work decades after his artistic peak ended. I found and really fucking love his work from the 60s-mid 70s, but know his work after is spotty at best. Any record of his from the 90s, no matter the quality, would cause me to become an ex- Lou Reed fan. I certainly wasn't expecting any more defining work out of him.

Oh shoot, most of the times i expect something else from my favorite artists. They can sure deliver at least one or two great songs. And or course i expect that from him. I love him.
Three of my favorite records from him are from the 90s; Magic And Loss; Set The Twilight Reeling and Ecstasy ( i saw him during this tour).
Even The Raven was a pretty interesting idea....im just sad there is not more music from him and Lulú was his last studio album.
