Leyland Kirby – We Drink To Forget The Coming Storm
'We drink to forget the coming storm'' is collection of forty tracks released on my fortieth birthday.
For just forty days and forty nights it is available for free (and for a donation) as a thank-you for your support and interest in my works.

As this is released for my birthday I would suggest the price of a birthday whisky to be a fair price for this collection should you wish to pay. Then I feel we will raise the virtual glass connected together for good health and fortunes.
Running in total at over three hours. It is not a fixed release and should be used sparingly in your own favourite track combinations.
It can be used to uplift on the low days, to gain strength and clear the mind. Each track combines the same elements piano, digital strings and synthesized choir. There are dark twists and light passages. It leads you somewhere whilst going nowhere.
A reflection of a time passing, a glimpse back into my own past, a look forward into the forthcoming abyss. Recorded through the darkest night hours during periods of disillusionment. There were no second takes, so we enjoy the errors and misadventures.
Like life itself wrong notes may be hit, there maybe the odd distortion, melodies drift and we hope to gain strength from the introspective nature of the work. We cover no new ground. We wear our hearts on our sleeves.

Leyland Kirby has resurrected his notorious V/Vm project with a proposed reissue of The Death of Rave.
The material was initially appeared way back in 2006, when Kirby made a selection of 200 tracks available on his long-defunct V/Vm Test website. Each track was constructed from fragments of rave anthems, which were fired through Kirby’s usual arsenal of computer-assisted noise generators to result in a cacophony of mournful nostalgia and mischief.
Kirby spoke to Simon Reynolds about the project (in the acclaimed Retromania book), explaining “Everyone thought everything was possible on those long nights. The World was ours. Now I think this generation is very disillusioned. They saw a glimpse of light on the dance floors, but that light has gone out and the future seems grim and predictable.”
The subject matter isn’t a million miles away from Kirby’s mournful compositions under his own name, when you really think about it, and eight of the finest pieces have now been hand picked and remastered for our enjoyment.

One of the most influential figures in German rock music, Edgar Froese of Tangerine Dream, has died. Froese, who was 70, suffered a pulmonary embolism and died in Vienna on Tuesday, Tangerine Dream announced on their Facebook page.
Froese founded Tangerine Dream in Berlin in 1967 and was the only constant member. Early in their career the group were associated with the scene known in the UK as “krautrock”, and their debut album was comprised of tape collages, but as they developed they had little in common with the “motorik” sound of Neu! and Harmonia, the challenging experimentalism of Faust or the free-flowing improvisations of Can. Instead they developed a spacey, synth-driven sound that was profoundly influential on electronic and ambient music.
Nick Storring is a Toronto-based composer and instrumentalist who put out a pair of albums late last year. They were both performed entirely by Storring on literally dozens of different instruments. The first one is called Gardens and is a little more organic and seemingly structured. Endless Conjecture is the second and is heavier on the percussion and noise aspect. I prefer Gardens overall, but they're both quite good.
