All this talk of Manic Street Preachers had me looking at their discography last night, I know of the band but they've never really been big in Australia.

I did find this song, which is possibly the only song that had airplay over here, but it was only on Triple J (AFAIK) which is not a commercial station. I loved this song, and it wasn't until now that I realised that it was by the Manic Street Preachers:

Such a fantastic song. But I'm saddened to hear that this wasn't a monster hit down there...

I don't remember ever hearing that song before. But I like it. Man, I actually kind of enjoy 'discovering' bands like this, that I hadn't got into before.

I'll probably end up buying a couple of their albums now. Are the any that you could recommend for a newbie?

They've covered a crazy amount of ground in their career. Everything Must Go was their biggest commercial hit, it's very sweeping, epic, straight forward rock. The Holy Bible is their critical masterpiece; It's a very claustrophobic, nihilistic, art-punk record. I would start with one of those two, depending on which sounds like it appeals more. Actually, if you like Tolerate & Australia, then Everything Must Go is probably the best place to start (though Tolerate is on the follow-up record, which is much more mellow and expansive and bleak). PM me if you'd like, and I can either send you an album or two to test-drive or make you a mix that gives you an idea of what each record from their career is like.

Wikipedia doesn't seem to have any data but I recall Design for Life and If You Tolerate This... both being moderately successful singles down here.

That said, it felt like I was in a crowd of about 20 people when I saw the band play at the 1999 Big Day Out (in the middle of the afternoon).

They actually did a mini-tour in Australia and New Zealand this summer to coincide with them wanting to be down there to watch the Welsh rugby team (or maybe it was the British one...is there a Welsh rugby team?), but I have no idea what type of venues they played. In fact, it's possible they only played in Sydney, Melbourne, and Auckland.

I think that's right, it was just a handful of shows.

Thanks man. I'll go down to the record store to see if they have anything first. :nice:

I like the OLP version more. Probably because it doesn't have any beatles on it

Neither of those songs, not even the OLP version, are better than pearl jam's entire discography.

It's become impossible for me to determine when stip's posts are exagerrated trolling and when they're his genuine opinion.
