No no, I'm saying this
malice wrote:the implication for liking a movie like this one is that one has rather pedestrian tastes
is probably not the case.
ok, i understand that.

but still can't help but (respectfully! :) ) feel that both mickey and argo are putting out this vibe. like maybe I need to reexamine my tastes and try my best to be more discerning when I admit to such base emotional reactions as enjoyment to what must obviously be a cheap ploy by the movie to pluck on my heartstrings, or pander to my emotions, and shouldn't i just know better by now and instead be either bored or disgusted...

the thing is, i think both mickey and argo are smart and entertaining posters and I don't look to be rude in what I'm saying, but my nose wrinkles involuntarily at their comments.

and the funny part is that I'm not all that passionate about this movie (or any movie, honestly) that I feel compelled to defend my reaction to it.

I know that means Argo thought it was a shitty movie, hence my comment of being a shitty movie fan.
Sorry, I guess I misinterpreted your comment as putting words in Argo's mouth (as in "Chloe is a shitty movie fan").
I've had my share of conversations that have gone like this:
"what did you think of this movie"
"eh, I didn't like it because of X and Y."
"oh. I liked it. I guess I'm just a BIG STUPID IDIOT."

It's like calm down dude. I didn't say that. Sheesh.

I'm surprised anybody had any extreme emotional reaction to it either way. It's likable, it's pleasant, etc....but there's nothing more about it that stands out as great than there is that comes across as terrible.

I thought it might help with the conveyance of my feelings towards whatever might be getting talked about at any given moment.

Guys, stop bothering McP with this stuff so he can continue posting in Star Wars, Godzilla, and Planet of the Apes threads. And the Pacific Rim one when I bump it to say they are working on part 2.

Whatever. I loved it. It was stunning to me how much of it (probably things that critics of it have dismissed as being "silly") reflected things I've gone through both with myself and with my immediate family. But if not "getting it" means you've never dealt with any of this stuff, then I'm genuinely happy for you. For what it's worth, everyone I know who's dealt with the kind of issues addressed in the movie loved it as well.
