I feel like it takes a combination of presence and praise for a disinteresting or just tiresome song to become really frustrating. It takes something like smells like teen spirit for that to happen....not Meatloaf

But in reality, at most coffeehouse open mics, you will hear at least a dozen songs that are twice as bad as any of these within an hour.
I'd rather hear a dozen amateurs struggle their way through a song they can barely play than one of these carefully prepared and sterilized pieces of shit from a 'real' musician and his producers. I wouldn't consider a song from the latter to be better. Heart plays into it. Just ask Captain Planet.

You know, for a long time I thought the line was "I guess it rains down in Africa", like the guy's just kind of meteorologically oblivious

this is true.

I'm having a surprisingly hard time thinking of songs I truly despise to the point that I think they're some of the worst songs of all time.

In genres that hit closer to home I'd probably throw Foo Fighters Best of You up there.

always thought it was about his desire to bang a black chick

How can anyone hate Africa? I have no idea what that song is about, but those synths are so soothing.

I probably would have said that once upon a time too, but 4-5 years on the Peoria, IL coffee shop circuit brought me to my senses. And don't get me wrong -- I'm not talking about kids who are just starting out and just need practice, I'm talking about people who can play fine but just have no knack for composing music.

"Spending 106 weeks on the German Singles Chart, "Ein Stern (...der deinen Namen trägt)" is the first song to be on that chart for 2 years or longer, and also makes it the song with the longest run ever on that chart."

We just have the best taste in music.

Surely there's another list out there where the exact same songs are The Best Songs Of All Time.
