Or something.
If it were all tied up and down to the last vote, I wouldn't hesitate to vote for BoJ... it's a feakin' great song
But considering that I knew this wouldn't even be close... someone's gotta show LB some love up in this place
I voted for it too. Because I knew the vote wouldn't matter and because I genuinely prefer listening to Infallible more than Brain of J, right now. I like what McP said about Brain of J and I'd also add that the song has always felt unfinished to me. Which might be a large part of it's charm, though I've never taken the time to really consider that. Maybe I should.... anyway, I really love Infallible.
But, like bluestate said, IF this thing had been tied, or even close, IF there had been any real competition here, I may have thought about it longer before voting. And Brain of J may have swayed me. In the end it won't matter though.

In a vacuum, I'd probably enjoy Infallible. However, it serves as a Pearl Jam "before and after" when paired up with Tremor Christ. Thus, it ends up really pissing me off .

And why are you pairing it with Tremor Christ?

Probably because it has a similar "choppy" main riff... I get what he's saying. They played it too safe with Infallible, it could've been TC-level with a more ballsy guitar treatment

I've always compared it to Tremor Christ as well.

It's not a crazy comparison. But at the same time Infallible is not trying to be tremor christ, and I think that matters. Different ideas, different head space, reaching for different things.

I like Brain Of J more than DTE everyday. It's a fantastic song, and they absolutely nailed it from the Australian '98 tour.
I think I do too, if I'm being honest with myself.

Because they are totally different songs with totally different goals?

Who was the poster who said something along the lines of "making the main point of your song be the lyric for the catchiest part is the most brilliant and innovative thing Pearl Jam has ever done" when talking about Infallible*?
*And sincerely meant it...

I have no idea. But, then again, your post doesn't make any sense to me. Infallible. Infallible, thought, now that makes sense to me. And I LOVE it. Even if Brain of J is better.

He was trying to say that Infallible was really inventive because the catchiest part of the song was when Ed sang "By thinking we're infallible, we are tempting fate instead," which was the central theme to the song, and that by stating the main point in the catchiest part Pearl Jam was breaking new ground.
I think it was that ReleaseMe dude who used to get mad and tell everybody they were wrong about melody.

I'm one of the biggest Infallible defendants you'll find on this board, and I'm pissed off right now.

He's the one who said something like non-catchy music was not worth listening to. I think it was a Stip second account.
