Well, if it can be observed that neural processes that usually occur when one experiences color also happen to occur in said person's brain when they experience certain music (or sounds, idk if it has to be music), then it seems that would suggest synesthesia. The hard part is identifying these neural processes and their relationships to contents of the mind.
No one is suggesting that synesthesia isn't a real phenomenon. But most people who claim to "experience" it actually just have some kind of connection they've made between the song and an experience as opposed to really experiencing synesthesia. I can tell you what colors come to mind for any variety of songs. If I think about it long enough though, I can usually figure out why (what specific experience) I "see" these colors with said songs.

Yea, okay. That sounds right.

that's interesting. for me the colours go back to the first couple times i listened to the albums and came very strongly, so there's not really any experiences to associate with the songs outside of those actual first listens. but it's possible i have faux synethesia. who knows.

Anyone who really has synesthesia knows that all of the Post-Riot Act Money Grab songs are green.

"for me the colours go back to the first couple times i listened to the albums and came very strongly"

-This seems like an important criteria. If the first couple times you listened to the song you started "seeing" REDREDRED, and you're being honest with yourself about how strongly you really sense this "color in your mind shit."

I imagine 99% of the time the colors people see coincidentally match with the colors on the album artwork.

I don't get this, exactly. Definitely the colours came unprompted and very strong on first listen. They still come when I listen to these studio tracks now, but since I know to expect them now, maybe it's not true synethesia anymore? Could be.

I don't think this would negate any evidence of synesthesia. I think this would always be the case. It could be supporting evidence.

i'm worried your caps lock synethesia will trump my lowercase synethesia and i'll start seeing your colours now
Do you still get these colours? It tends to disappear as people get older... How old are you now? How old were you when these colours came to you?

For the studio song I mentioned, I still get the colours, yeah, but a bit less intense. And I haven't found new songs where it happens in a long time. I can remember very vivid colours also associated with the Berlin 96 bootleg when I first heard it and which colours came with which songs, but when I go back and listen to that, they're not there anymore. Definitely my most intense experiences with this stuff were in 96-97, when I was first really discovering pj in an obsessive way. That was a long time ago. Wow.

I'm 32 now, so I was 15-16 when it was the strongest.

Nothing yet. But if you send me a voice recording I'll let you know if your voice is the first.
