Today I'm really loving this line from Sirah: "Life's only a bitch because it's a man's world."

Nas, from "Affirmative Action":
Life's a bitch, but God forbid the bitch divorce me
I be flooded with ice so hellfire can't scorch me

So if you find someone
Someone to have, someone to hold
Don't trade it for silver
Don't trade it for gold
I have all of life's treasures
And they're fine and they are good
They remind me that houses are just made of wood
What makes a house grand
It ain't the roof or the doors
If there's love in a house
It's a palace for sure
Without love, it ain't nothin but a house
A house where nobody lives

Speaking of houses, the lyrics to
Troublesome Houses are some of my favorite ever.

Those are great, Ruddo -- I also really like the words to "The Sounds Are Always Begging" on that album (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's "Wonder Show of the World" for those of you playing along at home).

The vision becomes a vow to seek vengeance on all the vicious
Liars and politicians, profiteers of the prisons
The forehead engravers, enslavers of men and women
Includin' members of clergy that rule on you through religion
Strippin' kids to the nude and then tell 'em God'll forgive 'em

That dick would have to be featured in the
New England Journal of Medicine, wouldn't it?

I love these lyrics
Ashes to ashes
We're born to rust
But there must be a little iron left
Left in us
-wildfire by mynabirds.
I'm a sucker for these kind of never give up underdog lyrics, and they a delivered in a lovely understated, weary way that plays against type for a line that reads anthematic on the page

Running with the 'songs my kids love that make up my commute' theme
Dance me to the end of love - Leonard Cohen
Dance me to your beauty with a burning violin
Dance me through the panc 'til I'm gathered safely in
....
Show me slowly what I only know the limits of
Dance me to the end of love
There are some magnificent lyrics in this song, starting with what should be an unwieldy title, but raises that intriguing question about whether or not love has limits, and the intimiate ways you test that.
This should be such a sexy song, but it came out at the height of his Casio crimes

Poor Lyle
He lives in an hourglass
Counting every grain he sees
Nothing but time
Always the sun
Curse of a thirst felt with his teeth
But he still has his arms
He still has his legs
Nowhere to walk to
And nothing to hold
After a panic
Gathered his wits about
Put action to plan
Confirming his survival
With rocks for his tools
And salt for his wounds
And luck to sail away
But not if it's windy
And not if it's cold
And nothing too risky
And nothing too bold
Hopefully be delivered by winter

I can't suppress these feelings any longer
You excite me, delight me, inspire me, drive me
It's in your eyes a fire that's wild and glorious
Uninhibited, unfinished in everything I do
Let the morning rise like our hearts desire
I can't help thinking that I love you
