Killing season also was much better on the second listen. Already it's grown a lot, but there's no songs on here like gravedigger's song where you hear it for the first time and just KNOW that it's gonna stay with you for years.

When I heard Torn Red Heart w/ headphones I KNEW

Waltzing In Blue has a very AIC-ish feel in the vocals. Wild People may be my second fav so far, but I already had several listens to the live version before this leaked.

i do stand by my earlier statement that this is the crappiest set of song titles he ever had.

I actually think that was Floor of the Ocean. He said Torn Red Heart was his fav on the new album though.

this was much better on that second listen, though there's still a shortage of truly excellent songs.

I didn't either after my first listen. Quite honestly I wasn't initially that excited after first listen to the album, but after a few more it's really started to click.

I hope that's the case. But since Blues Funeral he's really been on a downward spiral for me. Imitations, Black Pudding, and the Anthology were all let downs, despite some great stuff on each of them. And even No Bells I've only sporadically revisited, outside of Sad Lover.

This is where being prolific really helps. Being disappointed in a ML offering is not the end of the world since there will be 3 more things next year.

True in that there will likely be more music from him next year to digest. To me this is his best since Blues Funeral, but I haven't listened enough yet to rank it among his other albums. I did appreciate it more with headphones.

Imitations was hit and miss, same with Black Pudding. I'm def enjoying this more than the EP, although Sad Lover is fantastic. Never really warmed up to Dry Iced at all. Like Blues Funeral though, I expect many of these songs to translate well live.

this has gotten 5 or 6 listens at this point. I think Harvest Home is the weakest track on the album, and Judgement Time would be an interesting linking piece or a cool down song towards the end of the album, but doesn't work well as a second track.So it's a rough start. Beyond that the album is full of mostly good songs, but nothing on here is really great, and that's the problem. It's a solid enough listen as an album, but I don't know how many songs will survive into the shuffle rotation once the newness wears off.

Floor of the Ocean works better on the album than it did by itself. Seventh day, Torn Red Heart, and Death Trip to Tulsa are probably my favorites--the first two because they're so unlike everything else he's done, so it's easier to appreciate them. Death Trip because it's the closest to that grinding industrial blues stuff of his that I love so much. Killing Season, Waltzing in Blue, and Wild People are also solid. And these songs could all keep growing.

I do think I Am the Wolf is a bit cheesy.

I'm taking this slowly, but my first thought is that the KEXP version of Judgment Time is way better than the album version.

^^Oh man, I prefer the album version way more. The vocals at least--I do love the extra guitar at the end of the live version though. Studio version does seem rushed in comparison. Same could be said for studio vs. live version of The Wild People.

Floor Of The Ocean has grown on me considerably since this thing leaked, especially after driving to it. Still not feeling Killing Season (although it's getting better) and I Am The Wolf, was never crazy about the latter to begin with.

im with Delima on judgement time. i hadnt heard that version, but its a lot better.

Floor of the ocean wins the most improved for sure. I do quite like killing season, though.

Listening to No Bells On Sunday again. Sad Lover is easily the best thing to come from both of these sessions by a country mile (which is longer than one of those city miles)
