My Mom will watch playoffs but that was about it. I found it on tv when I was young (I wanna say like summer 1987?) and was hooked so my first vivid memories started in 1988 when I was like 7 so I can go either way in this tournament. I remember the 1988 World Series very well and bits and parts of the 87 Series. I played baseball (like most kids) and loved Bo Jackson (one of my favorite athletes ever), Nolan Ryan, Tony Gwynn, Will Clark, Kirby Puckett (shame he never won an MVP and one of the most underrated players of all time), Andre Dawson, Cal Ripken JR, Tim Raines (Get this dude in the Hall of fame please!!), Wade Boggs, Orel Hershiser, George Brett, Ozzie Smith, Rickey Henderson, Eric Davis, Dave Winfield, Don Mattingly, Paul Molitor, Robin Yount, Alan Trammell, David Cone, Doc Gooden, etc. The relationship I have with baseball and music is an intense one. After my child they are my biggest loves and I can't imagine my life without them. Corny I know.

I didn't have a team until 1990 when I became a Texas Rangers fan. My sister moved to Dallas in 1989. Summer of 1990 I started going there in the summers and watched games on tv. Fell in love with Ruben Sierra, Ryan, Raffy, Kevin Brown, Harold Baines, Julio Franco, Gary Pettis, Steve Buechele, Kenny Rogers, a young Jamie Moyer lol, etc etc. I have a ball signed by the full 1996 Rangers team. I was 15 and will always remember that summer. Good times.

I'm down with 1980-present or 1990-present. I'm Switzerland on that. Totally neutral.
I was born in nebraska into a st louis cardinal fanatic family..we would sit in the car every night after dinner to listen to the games on the radio because we couldnt get good reception in the house..that was in the early 70s
As much as I have intense hatred for the Cardinals (again....Rangers fan) that is an awesome story. I have a few friends who are Cards fans. Being from Nebraska they are all over. I do love the way they run their franchise.

I have MLB extra innings and watch probably 125-130 Rangers regular season games a year.

They're not anyone. They're hypothetical players.

I would say... probably, yeah. His peak was pretty outstanding, and he even provided value into his 40's. I think his homerun total and lack of PED connection (that I can remember) will make him a slam-dunk for the voters, but I have no issue with him getting in. He's like Frank Thomas with a slightly lower peak.

Alright, looks like we're up to six; phil, 4/5, BRL, Kaius, Argo, and me.

You want in, doug or lenny? We can make the time period start earlier for you if you'd like in, doug.

When I look at Thome I don't really see Hall of Famer but with his stats it's tough to say no. Only finished in the top 5 of MVP voting once. Pretty good WAR too. It'll probably take a few years.

Oh, and in. But I'd rather not limit it, or push the limit back to say 1960.

I would vote for (in this order):
1990-present
1980-present
1990-1999
1980-1999

since I'm not sure what other people are thinking. Basically, I just don't like chud('s idea).

I have thought about how far back we should go and I thought this would be a good idea. We all go back to the year we vividly remember baseball. So mine would be 1988 and we find an average. So let's say there are ten of us and these are our years....

1960
1965
1975
1980
1985
1988
1990
1992
1993
1995

divide that by 10 you get 823 so lets say we go back to 1983? Just an idea.

He's the Barry Bonds of our board. Misunderstood. Much love for you, Chud. Anyone who loves baseball and music I get along with most days even if I disagree with them.

Do you guys want to just do a 90s tournament to start with? And if it goes well we can do other decades?

Or we can do something like post-strike through today (1995-2013), and if that goes well maybe do other "eras" in that fashion, like the LCS-era (1969-1993), post-integration (1947-1968), live ball (1920-1946), dead ball (1901-1919). I would just rather not start with a huge chunk of time.

I guess my choices in order would be...

1990-2013
Post-strike
1980-2013
1990-1999

But I'm game with whatever the most participants want.

This would be my choice out of your options.

I really dig 80's baseball but if some don't wanna go back that far it's cool.

We should vote and junk.

Random Barry Bonds fact.....

Bonds finished in the top 5 in WAR 15 times. 15!! But 11 of those were before *73.
