Swans. There are a few songs of theirs that I do like, but overall I just find them to be a few notches shy of what they seem like they should be (if that makes any sense).

I'm not too surprised by most of your list. Sloppy punk and arena anthems don't seem to be your thing

As to the question in the thread title, uhhh, I dunno. Maybe Queen? Maybe electric Miles? I'll have to think about it.

Oh, and every Blue Nile album that isn't Hats. Because I love Hats so much.

I'm not sure I feel like I should like The Beatles.

I tried getting into AC/DC recently. I dismissed them as crappy "classic rock" as a teenager, but Steve Albini talks up Back in Black a lot so I wanted to give 'em another shot. I still can't do it. It still feels like crappy "classic rock" to me.

Maybe Blondie, considering how much I like the rest of that late-70s NY scene.

It took me a while to get into The Smiths. I didn't "get" them at first.

what are your top 5 REM songs that you feel like should move you but don't?
That's hard to do.

One, because REM song titles tend to be absurd and difficult to remember. Two, because I don't usually remember song titles easily in general. And three, because I tend to forget the ones that don't move me.

Like I said, most of their hits or really well known songs are songs that I like. Country Feedback might be a tad overrated in my estimation. Good song, but I don't get why people freak out about it. And I can never remember how it goes until I listen to it again.

Really, most bands that I don't like I feel pretty comfortable not liking.
After chewing on the question, I think there are a lot of bands who I, meh, kinda like I guess...but that are generally seen as great. Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, QOTSA...they're all okay. Just....okay.

I think my initial list fits into that feeling. "Oh, they're alright." Shrug.

To be fair, much like Burt, I haven't REALLY tried that hard. They have a few songs I really love, but I've listened to maybe three albums from beginning to end and liked it enough not to turn it off.

Soundgarden is another one. Maybe the biggest one. Again, other than a handful of songs, I just can't get into them. But it seems like they should be right up my alley. I mean, I like Audioslave more than Soundgarden.

I can't stand the Smashing Pumpkins. Don't bother making me a mix, I've tried.

I don't think this quite fits the topic, but I am astounded by the unapologetic awfulness that is the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

I've resisted carpooling for fear of sitting through a Red Hot Chilli Peppers song.
Also, Dave Mathews, The Offspring, and few others that I can't think of because you said Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Seriously - could make you a mix of some great stuff by The Pumpkins!
