i have yet to reach my prime, whereas riot act is an indication that pearl jam's prime had passed;tommymtcom wrote:What would you say are the three key differences between yourself and Riot Act?Alex wrote:i respect your opinions--both of me and of riot acttommymtcom wrote:Alex wrote:why riot act of course. and boy was that a swift closure.E.H. a hawaiian had no part in my creation; AND
my political satire is subtle
Couldn't disagree more. I love the raw, loose, "live in studio" sound of that album. It feels warm.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:For me, Riot Act is somewhat under-produced, the opposite of O'Brien's crap. I think "Save You" in particular could have used a little more work in terms of fleshing out the song, as they eventually did on stage. It sounds like barely a demo sketch. And they released it as a single! Wacky.

I do too. I'm not talking about the sound of the album. I'm talking about the state of the songs at the time a "master" was achieved. More than one band member has said that they thought some of the songs were demos and too underdeveloped but Adam Kaspar insisted on keeping those early takes. Sometimes that's a good thing, but in the case of "Save You", I think the song could have used some more arranging work. I'd like to hear a studio version of that song that has that same raw sound, but resembles the live version. They don't sound confident at all on the "Riot Act" version. For such an assertive song, it's kind of inappropriate.LoathedVermin72 wrote: Couldn't disagree more. I love the raw, loose, "live in studio" sound of that album. It feels warm.
I see what you mean, but I just don't have any problem with the state of the songs on the album, I guess.Wendy Carlos's Twin wrote:I do too. I'm not talking about the sound of the album. This. S/T is the album that got me back into PJ. Fond memories.Habitman wrote:Bridge --> Verse riff kicks back in --> "I feel a SICKness...I sickness coming over me..."
That final verse in Marker is perfectly delivered by Ed.
