Wow Cornell sounds phenomenal on River of Deceit, the symphony backing is legit, too. I hope there was a professional recording of this. Benroya has spit out some damn good shows over the years...

Looks like we know what next year's Xmas single will be.

Hey, was Ed even at this thing? Kinda weird if not, considering he's a part of this whole PJ/SG/TotD/Mad Season brotherhood. On the other hand, it kinda reminiscent of 20 years ago, when he went his own direction for a bit. Maybe he's (or his head is) too big for something like this, but he definitely belonged here... speaking as a child of nostalgia.
Great performances, judging from the videos... lucky fuckers who got to witness this!!!

If Ed was there, and I don't think he was, he didn't show his face. I could see into the doorway they used to enter and leave the stage, and while there were always people watching from there, none of them ever looked like they could be Ed.

I think it made sense that Ed wasn't there. No disrespect to him. He's always been conscious of the scene that existed in Seattle before/outside of him.
This night looks like it was even more special than I'd have guessed.

Ed is the most popular/recognizable star/face/personality (whatever you want to call it...icon?) of this whole Seattle music brotherhood. At least of those who are still alive. His appearance would have overshadowed the point of the evening and had he come on stage it wouldn't have been as special. Lots of people would have come away from this event talking about it as if it was a Pearl Jam concert. And I'll give Ed credit for likely knowing that and not coming in to upstage the thing.
Casual fans were like "Where is Eddie!!???!!" But those who know, know. This wasn't about Ed.
Case in point, a conversation with my wife after I got home...
How was it?
Awesome, top 5 concert I have ever been to.
Well wasn't Eddie Vedder there? I thought he was one of the special guests.
Nope.
Well isn't that who you went to see?
Nope. I went to see Mike McCready play Mad Season songs and then TOTD reunited and..oh nevermind, you just don't understand. It's ok.

The guest I would have been thrilled to see is Mark Lanegan. That was the only missing piece.
Sean Kinney was a huge surprise. I guess he couldn't afford to go to the Super Bowl with Jerry!

Btw, I love Tupac, but when you compare how these guys paid tribute to Layne during All Alone vs. the hologram...wow. This is how you do it

Yeah that really would have been special and I'm sure Lanegan would have showed if he wasn't already on tour in Europe. Would be pretty bad ass to see Cornell and Lanegan sing Long Gone Day....

I can never figure out how to post youtube vids from my phone, but if you listen to this version of River of Deceit with phones on you can hear the symphony really clearly. Wow. http://youtu.be/-DATKWDb-tk
