I think the session that yielded Nothingman and Tremor Christ. I think it was Nov 15 before the shows there.

On headphones: Binaural
On vinyl: Riot Act or Mirrorball
On CD: Yield followed closely by Vitalogy & No Code

How does Merkinball sound on vinyl? I have it, but haven't listened to it on a good system

Vitalogy is too treble-heavy for my taste. It doesn't have the tasty low-end thump of No Code. Plus, I hate how when the main riff first kicks in in "Corduroy" it only comes out of one speaker.

Sounds only slightly better (my copy is dusty), but the ending Neil Young solo sounds startlingly like an overdub recorded in a different room.

Thanks to psychobain's post in the Tame Impala thread, I've stumbled across a guy called 'BrickwallHater' who, true to his name, hates brickwalling. So much so that he has taken the time to 'unmaster' a number of poorly mastered albums, including 'Avocado', with some impressive results. His torrent can be found with a quick google, and is definitely worth your time.

The fat muddy frequencies have been removed so it sounds much more like those April 04 demos/rough mixes, with better separation of instruments, crisper guitars and punchier drums. Better yet, you can actually listen to it on headphones without making your ears bleed, which is a plus in my book

No Code, Vitalogy, Yield, Riot Act.
I really should listen to Binaural once in headphones.

To the surprise of no one I really don't care for the no code production.

Vs. vitalogu, yield, and riot act are the best

This may get me crucified, but...

I would have voted for No Code, but the transition between Sometimes --> Hail Hail, is just too gosh darn loud. I always worry I'll blow my speakers out trying to listen to the super quiet Sometimes to the (relatively) super loud Hail Hail.

Sometimes > Hail, Hail is one my favorite transitions ever.
