Good bump. I need more of these movies. Gonna watch Escape on LV's recommendation.

I'm very impressed that you listed Five, Ruddo. That's one I've always liked.

Also, let me put in a plug for The Earth Dies Screaming, directed by the awesome Terence Fisher.

I'm not a fan of these types of movies. Mad Max is fun cause of the action but....I'm not really afraid of dying but the idea that one day there won't be any people left terrifies and depresses me. It will happen one day but I don't like thinking about it. I know most of these movies are about the survival of a few after society breaks down or whatever but it's in the same wheelhouse that everything we are as a species will one day be lost and forgotten. Blah its a bummer.

I'm inclined to agree, bada, but I think this is a very insightful take on the genre: http://www.popbioethics.com/2015/05/mad ... pocalypse/

Oh yeah the genre has merit its just realistic takes on said genre aren't something I enjoy. For instance I'll never watch The Road but Waterworld is fun.

I'm with you. Although I'd replace "realistic" with "cynical" or "pessimistic."

The Road wrecks me, man. I love it though.

These are my favourite types of movies. The Road is certainly up there for me, but I wasn't a fan of Children of Men.
Some of my personal favs:

Blade Runner
Dark City
28 Days Later
Resident Evil Extinction
Reign of Fire
Land of the Dead (2005)
Escape from NY
Mad Max 2 - Road Warrior

T2 would have to be on this list, but it seems more Sci-Fi to me. And if only Terminator Salvation was a bit better...

Recent honourable mentions:
Elysium
Oblivion
I Am Legend

I enjoyed Oblivion, thought Elysium was a letdown. Also, Dark City is a great one!

Where does Interstellar stand? Dystopian or Sci-Fi?

Too bad, that story had potential too.

I like how in the end, the 'hero' essentially dooms the last bit of unspoiled land left in the world and humanity along with it. Way to go, asshole.
