I once called comcast because the cable on one of my TVs was coming in crappy. Channels were mostly scrambled, screen would go black, etc, etc.
When trying to work it out on the phone with them I said something along the lines of "I can describe to you the pattern of splitters in my house and tell you exactly how much signal loss (measured in dB) I have before the signal reaches this cable box, do you think that would be the problem?" The guy said no that's not it and said they'd have to send a tech out a few days later. The tech looked at the box, looked at all the splitters, and said "yeah, you have too many splitters in the chain for this box, I'll just replace the first splitter with a powered one and each branch of the fork will be at full power".
If the guy on the phone just said "yeah, that's the problem right there" I could have gone to radioshack that very afternoon and got a powered splitter and watched TV that night.

When I told the tech what happened he was like "yeah, you know a bit more about how this works than anyone on the phone does".

Hey team, I want to hear more stories about your hold times on the phone with Comcast tech support. Totally not mundane at all. Keep 'em comin' if you would please.

it usually picks up that NBC Universal sports channel, but I'm not sure if they show the playoffs on that or not.

GoT is the first show where it's bothered me having to watch it the following day. Facebook, Reddit and the workplace are spoiler minefields.
