Kirk gets played off as an exaggerated motion punch-loving space monkey (which would be a pretty good show), but for the era he was borderline too-thoughty. A lot of reviews of the show from the time complain about Shatner being wooden, and about the show being entirely too talky and philosophical.
Picard hearts Gandalf, but Kirk has Henry Rollins over for Monday night football and has Adrian Belew play on his insane records.
