Michael Moore is such a smug asshole. I think flying that flag is shitty, but Jesus.

To be fair, that tweet was by Jenny Johnson, who is probably an even bigger asshole than Michael Moore. Figuratively.

The South is also the only part of the country to have a regional flag. There is no flag for New England, or the Great Lakes, or the Rocky Mountains, etc. Many people, especially older generations and people whose family lines are long time southern, see it as a symbol of regional pride. To outsiders and non-white minorities may see only an emblem of racism but that's truly not how the stars & bars are seen by a fair number of native southerners, particularly blue collar whites with long local roots. It's "heritage", both for better and worse.

Perhaps we need to bond over something universally beloved, like untaxed illegal booze.
It's past time to get rid of that flag as a government symbol.

It would be ridiculous, and completely possible, if the only change to come from the shooting is that the confederate flag is moved off the capitol grounds.

I don't think even that will happen.

I don't know. No one in North Carolina understands irony.

New England actually does have a flag, but no one cares about it.
