Also, Ghost. That was easily my least favorite song on RA for a while. I'm not sure what made that click for me or when.
I instantly loved Ghost. It's such a cool song and the watery vibe with the chorus is really cool. Matt also does some really nice fills in that part.
I think, for me, it was largely the lyrics. Especially pinned between Cropduster and I Am Mine, both of which I adore no end. Once I stopped caring about the lyrics or became familiar enough with them to stop listening, I started to like it a lot more. Then once I liked everything else about the song, I kinda liked the lyrics. Basically, I've done a 180 on that guy.
Lots of songs on Riot Act are kind of forgettable upon the first few listens but then you really grow to appreciate them. Ghost, Cropduster, Get Right, Green Disease, You Are all have some really cool things going on.

Not to mention the atmosphere and production present in each track.
For my dollar, Riot Act is still the best sounding Pearl Jam album. I love the way it sounds and the way it feels. It's glorious.
Agreed. I just wish it was a bit shorter.
It flies by for me. I can understand the criticism, for sure. But I also don't know what I'd cut from it. Or what I'd change. And when I'm listening, it's over before I know it.
I wish Riot Act was twice as long.

Mankind
I think it's because Stone sings, just kinda threw me off. I like it quite a bit now, still kinda wish Ed sang on it though.
Big Wave
I didn't like the chorus for a long time. Got me a big wave, ride me a big wave, got me a big wave. Got over it.
The Fixer
Was so poppy at a time I wanted something heavier. Definitely not the Pearl Jam I wanted. It's pretty great now, there actually seems to be lot going on, it's pretty deceiving.

When I heard Green Disease live for the first time. One of those songs that so much better than way than in the studio.
Yeah, The Fixer has gone up some on my list too.

The bonding over unpopular modern PJ songs just keeps on comin' today.

Habit, Pilate and Light Years have risen the most since initial hearing. Light Years probably the most.

I forgot about Ghost; that's a great answer. I definitely fell into the trap of thinking that and Gods' Dice were these non-descript power chord chuggers for a while. Repeated listens showed they were a lot more.

Cropduster is one that I came around on. spenno was persistent and recommended me a good live version (which now I already forgot) and that turned me around.
