I just think it stems from most people not wanting to watch this kind of show, which is by no means a knock on the show itself.

I mean, I'm sure HBO knew what they were getting into--not a ratings blockbuster, but a critical darling. Props to them for sticking with Simon.

This will get the emmys that gets them more publicity than a show with triple the ratings.

This is why HBO is the best network on TV.

Even if it doesn't win Emmys (Isaac seems like a shoe-in, but who knows), it's just obvious that this is important art. That feels so pretentious to write out, but it's frickin' true.

Finally got a chance to watch the 2nd 2 hours and this show is incredible. David Simon has seemingly mastered the ability to make you sympathetic to the "ghetto" without ignoring why you weren't in the first place. He doesn't ignore the drug use, crime or fear. He doesn't try and pretend that those things don't exist, instead he uses it to show you that there are people just like you living amongst it. So fucking good.

TIL (thanks to the closing credits) that getting period-specific eyewear is the key to compelling and convincing characters.

I figured he would. Given he'd be what, 55 now? he'd have been involved in the press/marketing for this, or done an interview or something.

I saw it coming in the last 15 minutes or so, but not before that. I didn't know anything about this going in.

I tried to stay "spoiler free" for the series, but I did quickly look up the book the series was based on, as I wanted to read it when it was all over. The subtitle for it is: "A Tale of Murder, Suicide, Race, and Redemption." When I saw that, I knew it was Nick who would off himself. Was surprised there was no "murder," though.

Man, the moment when Nick calls out to his brother in a whisper...you can tell that was one of them moments where he thought, "If he comes up here, I'll ask for help, I'll get out of this," but he just couldn't do it. That extreme close up that came after was like nothing else in the series, either.

Yeah, I felt the same about that scene.

The whole show was just so well done.

I was entertained that the last two weekends has had both Namond Bryce and Randy Wagstaff on major television shows, Wallace in a major (flop) film... and the kid that was supposed to be the biggest star of them all is nowhere to be found- Micheal.
