Biggest thing I've ever built. Just one more shelf, a good sanding and debate whether to stain it or not and we're done. Not bad for a dirty old frame from the base of a bed I found in a skip.

Nice. reminds me of a coffee table I used to have that my flatmate built out of an old paling fence. Lots of character.

You should stain them.

Yeah I've been wondering about that but I haven't even varnished these. Staining takes a good bit of skill.

I'm sure you could get it done.

More into weathering than outright staining but I'm definitely going to give it a go on some wine racks I'm about to make.

Either way, you can do more than the raw wood look.

what is the skill to staining? Don't you just get an old sock and rub it on and the stain too?

If its done right, it can help bring out the rugged look and play to the woods strength. If its done poorly(or correctly depending on your view) it just leaves them looking shop bought and that defeats the purpose for me.
Purely an aesthetic thing but I will be trying my hand at it when I have a to at something like this today.

These are pretty fantastic. I'd pay you a decent amount of money for one.

No stain, please.

I could ship one to you. Postage might be as much as the cost but sure fuck it.
Just give me dimensions.

Dime, I was at a local 'recycled clothing' boutique last night to see how they updated it and they had some fantastic rough wood displays built. It totally changed the atmosphere of the place. It reminded me of your work.

One of these days I'll do some recon and snap some photos of the place for you. Their wall jewelry display was brilliantly done.

That'd be cool thanks a lot. Anything to inform it and help me develop what I'm doing.
There's a million people out there building with old/recycled wood and a lot of the ideas are amazing but most of it is very repetitive and generic. I keep trying to do obvious stuff but in a different way.
Need to find out how to market it and then get customers.

Craigslist? or find a mom & pop decor store that will sell it on consignment?

Craigslist never really took hold here. But thanks. I might just walk into some cafes/bars with a wine rack under my arm. Blag it:)
