Re: What are your favorite episodes of television shows?
I know everybody loves that final tracking shot of "The Secret Fate of All Life". But I'd probably pick "Seeing Things" (Episode 2) as my favorite episode of True Detective. The visuals, the dialogue, the sense of dread.
"I think about my daughter now, and what she was spared. Sometimes I feel grateful. The doctor said she didn't feel a thing; went straight into a coma. Then, somewhere in that blackness, she slipped off into another deeper kind. Isn't that a beautiful way to go out, painlessly as a happy child? Trouble with dying later is you've already grown up. The damage is done, it's too late."

Remember the Seinfeld episode that's told scene by scene in reverse? It begins in India? I remember watching that when it first aired and not liking it, thinking it was too gimmicky. But now, it's probably my favorite episode.

Re: What are your favorite episodes of television shows?
The episode of Futurama about Fry's dog.
The episode of Black Mirror with the personal memory recorders.
The episode of Parks and Rec when Chris/Ann leave Pawnee.
That episode of True Detective with the long tracking shot is hard to beat.
The last episode of Twin Peaks.
That episode of 30 Rock, I think it's called Milf Island?
Episode 4 of season 1 of The Office (UK) - Freelove Freeway is an undeniable classic.
Those ones stick out for me, I guess. Seinfeld, Breaking Bad, Game Of Thrones, Arrested Development, Curb, Freaks & Geeks...it's really difficult to come up with a definitive favourite. Most of the shows that I love are about moments and scenes rather than compartmentalised stories or episodes.

Case in point:

There's a moment in the scene above where Ron thanks Leslie for getting him a job as superintendent of a national park. After seeing the episode I read somewhere that Nick Offerman delivered that line as though he were really saying it to Amy Poehler, thanking her for the amazing opportunity to play Ron Swanson and for everything they'd shared over the course of filming that show. You re-watch that scene and watch his eyes and listen to his voice. It's magic.

I don't even know if I've seen that one. I am wavering between the one where they're trying to find out dirt about each other ("I didn't know I was adopted") or the one where they go to the strip club ("Hello, beautiful"). I think I'll go with the former because it's also the first appearance of Duke Silver.zeb wrote:The episode of Parks and Rec when Chris/Ann leave Pawnee.

No, the one with the guy with the recorder kernel behind his ear. You'd remember it.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Was that the bike merits one? I read that too. Hard to imagine how the story could be improved upon. It's perfect as is, but you could say that about the majority of that series.tragabigzanda wrote:Absolutely one of the best sci-fi stories I know. The episode of Adventure Time where Finn meets his father for the first time is terrific but I like the smaller stories like Rattleballs, Princess Cookie and when Finn/Jake break into the Ice King's castle and find all the ninja stuff.
