Quick (40 minutes or so) comp of some of my favorite songs to appear solely on singles or EPs. Ill do a full lengths one too sometime soon. This just came out quick. It's fast, noisey, and will probably only appeal to about three of you (if I'm lucky).
Oh and that Watery Love song has my favorite guitar solo of the year.

Great listen, loved the Vexx track

I respect and appreciate the craft and effort of LV's mix even if I don't really enjoy the music itself much. This makes sense as it leans heavily on hip-hop, a style that I have a difficult time with. I often like the backing music and production that makes up a lot of the hip-hop I encounter (and that's no different here), but I largely find rapping as a form of vocal delivery off-putting. An exception in this case was the Big Sean track. Perhaps I only like rappers with certain vocal qualities.

Anyway, I do have to give kudos to LV for editing everything together and adjusting the flow so that it is a seamless mix. I'm just not the right audience for the end result.

I've been listening through these mixes whilst winding down the year at work. I have more to say but for now these comments:

Brad's mix is a poppy rocky little trip, and fun for it. I removed a few songs from my own as they were already included here, but I simply couldn't leave off the most excellent Let It Happen, which has to be a lock for No 1 on the JJJ Hottest 100 on Oz Day, doesn't it? Lots to like here, and on the flip side thanks for reminding me once again how much I can't stand Muse.

Brett's mix was an unusual listen, to be expected I guess, but no less enjoyable for it. Gotta say that I particularly enjoyed the 'Ought' tune Beautiful Blue Sky.

I always enjoy a good SNC freak-out, and this one delivered as always. I need to listen again to pick up on a few tunes that whizzed past me in a blur.

Similarly I need to re-listen to Dogofthetemple's mix again as I was buried in paperwork when I played it through, but certainly my ears pricked up on a few occasions and I was left with a sense of having enjoyed it once it was all over. Fwiw I still get mildly irritated when people mix mp3s and m4a's in their mixes, but that's a small complaint.

Probably gonna skip LV's mix as it doesn't look at all to be my thing. I tried listening to Kendrick Lamar's album from this year but after about the 20th "nigger" I gave it away. As I get older I just don't bother trying as hard I guess. I'm sure Kanye won't miss me as a fan.

Still to get to Mike's mix, but I will, as well as the 2 spotify mixes. I do kinda like to have the mixes available as a folder on tap though, so if I don't get to them you only have yourselves to blame. So take that.

If anyone is interested there is also a blog that I sometimes check called Said the Gramophone that does a top 100 songs of the year list each year, all downloadable in 3 zip files. Good place to check out the more poppy side of the spectrum for those who care.

Hey Varis, thanks for the words about my mix. I'm glad that you found some stuff to enjoy in spite of the fact that it's a little bit abnormal.

I just downloaded your mix and should get around to checking it out in the next few days. I see a lot of names that haven't shown up on any other mixes, so I look forward to possibly hearing some new and interesting sounds.

Apparently it's a 7-1 chance (my god man, us Aussies will bet on anything ).

I'm sure I've said this before but it's easily song of the year for mine and possibly of the decade so far, I really hope it wins.

Varis can correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel as if there are themes for each of the two discs on his mix. The first is largely relaxed and satisfied, while the second is more on edge, and seems to repeatedly convey the idea of escape or breakup tropes.

I enjoyed the first disc more; it reminded me that I've forgotten to check out that Tame Impala album because that song is really good. I like the melody of the Mikal Cronin song, though not his voice, and I also enjoyed the way the Ryley Walker song built from a mellow acoustic beginning into an unhinged second half. Another highlight was the Haiku Salut track; it's a little more saccharine than I typically go for, but it intrigued me enough that I want to check out that album as well.

Highlights from the second disc came by way of the Decemberists (who I always appreciate from a distance, but never listen to) and Sara Lowes.

LMS's mix is a collection of songs from a musical landscape that isn't all that far removed from my own listening habits. Jaga Jazzist's "Starfire" is the high point; it's one of those songs that's so good that it overshadows everything else on the album it comes from, and thus I ended up enjoying the record less than I otherwise may have. The Cavern of Anti-Matter and Steve Moore songs were a couple other really interesting moments from the mix.

Again I find myself in total agreement with Varis' comments. Really enjoyed your mix Brad (actually more than I enjoyed Varis' ). Found my toes tapping a few times. Especially the Foals tune; liked that. Cheers!

Both the Cavern of Anti-Matter (Tim Gane from Stereolab's current band) and Steve Moore (synth guy from Zombi) tracks were singles from a Ghost Box 7" series.

And thanks for the comments Brett, always good to hear. I didn't necessarily set out with any theme in mind, more just tried to put songs side by side that transitioned OK into each other. I actually have a disc 3 in the works at the moment.

And spenno, mostly enjoyable tracks there to my ear, all coming from a place that I more or less expect from you these days. I'm gonna take credit for the 'Floating Points' inclusion though! I really enjoyed that album this year.

I do believe 2015 was a great year for tunes.

LV was kind enough to recommend this artist to me and damned if it isn't some of the most melodic, finely crafted pop music of the year. Hook-rich R&B in the classicist vein -- creative use of vocal harmony, sexy without crossing over into sleazy -- but shot through with modern production sensibilities. Recommended to anyone with an ear for the pop.
