Yeah the above is about right.

PJ have reacted to certain events (in a completely understandable way) like TM, Roskilde and the Iraq war/Bush admin. The content era coincides with the reissues and the start of regular festivals and from memory the start of the Obama admin.

I'd make a slight edit, and say 2005, maybe even 2004 started the "Rebirth" era. They seemed more lively and whatnot on that 2005 Canadian tour. That new energy, and rawk, were heard on S/T.

well the 2003 tour launches the 'pearl jam concert as celebration' transformation.

Is that really a fair critique? Are there any artists who are more productive in their second decade than they were in their first?

Shit, Metallica hasn't written a tenth album, and they've been around since '83. They're almost at 8 years since their last one.

Recognising that this doesn't reflect all of the possible options, I'd rather no new music than lots of bad new music.

I'd like them to be less conscious of themselves. I thought Ole and its release could signal the start of that. Get something out quickly and follow it up with something different within the next year or two. For all of Neil's missteps aren't dwelt on for long.

Easier for a solo artist to maintain that kind of restless energy than a band of five guys with a whole organsation built around them, I expect.

Absolutely. However, if all five of them were booked into a studio next week and they were asked to bring in 3-4 ideas each (ideas not even fully fleshed out songs but they'd have those anyway) there would be an album there. And no one knows whether it'd be successful or not (and by successful I don't mean commercially).
