I was shocked that there were no songs from On The Beach on my list; I could listen to that album all day/all night. I think everybody's lists of Neil songs gives us a window into the type of his tunes you appreciate most (because there's no "wrong" answer).

Nice choices, that might as well be my list. I love every song on it.

Kaius wrote:I have a lot of trouble when ranking individual songs by a particular artist. I've become almost exclusively a full-album consumer when absorbing new music, so separating songs from the ones that surround them becomes exhausting.
That's understandable, and album listening is often how I consume music as well. I think my main inspiration for this thread came from just listening at various points and realizing how much I like certain songs in a given catalog, or back when reading the March Madness threads how I noticed that so many Binaural songs sit among my favorites in the Pearl Jam discography.
One thing I found interesting about my lists in the starting post is that my Oceansize one is half-composed of songs that are either b-sides or on an EP despite the fact that I consider their run of four albums as one of the strongest I've heard.

Y'all are gonna hate me for saying this... but Neil's one of those guys who just knows what he does best. His hits tend to be his best songs. He's an amazing artist with a rich well of deep cuts. But I tend to find his mainstream stuff is his best. He's an immediately accessible artist who understands his strengths. He's artistic and commercial at the same time, when he's at his best.

One of them clearly wasn't Cinnamon Girl otherwise you would've kept right on listening.

I've been meaning to dig through his discography for a while. Just haven't gotten to it yet.

When I do finally dig in, I'm gonna do what I did with Springsteen and listen chronologically, beginning with his debut.
