Not a video of the actual performance (just audio), but this is the definitive version in my opinion.

That's a good performance, but it didn't strike me as a standout. I think this speaks to what someone said a few posts up about this being a song that is essentially always great. I don't think I've ever heard a bad, or even mediocre, version.

So is it “brrrs in the rain” or “birds” or something else? I hear brrrs.
I like brrrs.

I have a memory of someone in the band saying that the lyrics have never been written down and the song came together almost immediately in studio while Stone was tuning his guitar and improvising that beautiful pattern.

I think Ed mostly improvised the lyrics on the spot.
That would likely affect him on later takes if he was going by memory.

Release: the band’s first improv.

I think it's "verse"?

No, it doesn't make sense.

No, it doesn't make sense.

It does sound like a “v” sound there.

What about the line before that? ”I see the world’s on a rocking horse of time.” ?

He clears says "The 'Burbs", referring the 1989 Tom Hanks classic.

I didn’t know that’s how the lyrics to Release were created. This is a perfect song. :heartbeat:

"verse in the rain" could be taken as like "writing on the wall" but it's more likely to be nonsense

I was at that show. Torrential rain. Lightning flashes across the sky just as he sings oh dear dad. Crowd goes wild

Hi dad

It was easily the most magical pj moment I’ve experienced live

Took me 40 to get Oceans.
A sibling to Release in most senses. But a better song let’s be honest.
