PHATJ wrote:mikejasond, you clearly have no freaking idea what a "filler" track is. I mean, Oceans, Garden, and Deep are "fillers" in your book...? Whipping and Satan's Bed too? What in the total fuck are you talking about?!? I could entertain a conversation about the relative strengths and weaknesses of both halves of PJ albums, but your arguments are nothing more than "These songs are clearly better because I like them more, the rest are just fillers". This shit is getting retarded.
Again, they are fillers, because they lack substance compared to the rest of the album. Both lyrically and musically, these songs have nothing to say.

Oceans is the exception out of that list, it is interesting musically, but relatively short and kind of just feels like an interlude more than a complete standalone song. Which is fine. It works good as an opener for a concert or something but I can't see it on the radio for example.

Pry.to is a filler. Deep, Garden, Satan`s Bed, Whipping etc are not fillers. Your opinion is wrong, dude.

"Pleasantly cheeky" is not how I would describe SB's lyrics.

Sure, Pry.To is another level of Filler.

But when making an album not every song is going to be as good as the others. If you just listen to the hits you generally get the best of the best, then every band has awesome deep tracks that you would not hear if you didnt listen more closely, and then EVERY band has songs that are just there because they need to fill an album and not because they had something particularly interesting or important to say.

Does anybody find Satan's Bed to be a highlight of Vitalogy? Do you think the band does? Are they super proud of that song and those lyrics? It's a nothing song. I enjoy it but it is far from a classic. Id never put it on any Pearl Jam greatest hits or even greatest songs album. Its never going to be a live staple. Its just there.

How would you describe them? They're either funny/tongue-in-cheek or awful

Id say the question comes down to how self-aware you think Eddie is when he writes lines like "Ill never suck satan's dick!!"

Fine. Less to say than the other songs. I doubt there is anybody out there that loves Vitalogy because of Satan's Bed. If they are out there though they're probably on this forum so let us know

I think it could also be described as a "great fucking song", "better than anything the band has released in a decade", "not fucking filler at all".

Im amused by it, I like it, I would be excited if they played it live. It is nowhere close to a highlight of Vitalogy though
