Full Frontal is hilarious. I don't think Samantha Bee is especially edgy, I just appreciate her particular poignancy and delivery.

Well right but The Daily Show and shows like it aren't trying to change anyone's mind. They're just entertainment. I know you hate that and I agree that comedy can be and satire maybe should strive for more. Yeah, I get it. But sometimes people just want to laugh and nod. And that's why The Daily Show exists. And that's okay.

I don't know if I'm comfortable telling any artist "that's what you should do."

Should we even be holding The Daily Show to the standard of art? Is it art?

Did you just say David Lynch is gone? He's about to revolutionize tv FOR THE SECOND TIME, MAN!

TV is already pretty fucking interesting. And yes, I think it will continue to get better and better. As film becomes for homogenized and expensive, and as home theater technology improves, TV will be the new cinema.

Consuming, not watching is a great criticism of TV culture, though. That's a solid point.

I do agree that the long running (7 + seasons) shows thing is going to have to change. It won't end. There will always be old people watching CBS. But as TV becomes the new cinema, the model will have to shift. Shows will have to be shorter. Not just in episodes per season but in overall number of seasons, too.
American TV is already moving more toward the BBC model.

Yep. Pay for what channels you want, streaming, absolutely on the nose with this point, TVG.

They (film & TV) are totally different artforms. I agree.

It's novels vs short stories, that's all. Of course a good film maker can tell her story in 10 minutes or 120 minutes. But a great TV show isn't trying to do that. Because a show like Mad Men is 7 seasons doesn't mean Matt Weiner is a hack.

Really, you guys should be thrilled to see TV becoming what it's becoming. It's going to allow for real auteurs to come back to cinema. Movies will either be massive experiences, almost like amusement park rides, or they'll be smaller, deep, films made by real craftspeople; real auteurs. It should get rid of a lot of the things you have about modern movie culture.

I was just going to say, we forget about the shitty movies from the past and only remember the good ones.

Great chat, fellas.
Really enjoyed this SCV. And I really dig the intro/outro music. That's a really nice addition to this thing.
