When basically the whole existence of a thread is posting things that have already been posted in another thread, then trying to defend its usefulness from people saying it's redundant and should be merged, it's probably time to let it go.

1. I have no idea what's been posted in that other thread; and
2. Should, for example, LMS be expected to visit A&E to post about a guy from Willard Grace Conspiracy who died? Or my initial post about Rick Parfitt, does that truly belong in A&E, not OB?

I hardly ever visit A&E, so count me among those who sees the use for this thread.
Moreover, count me among those who doesn't give a rat's ass who starts what or how many threads on a single subject, or in what forums.

Maybe we should just move the RIP thread to GD.

Oh man, I have an irrational hatred for multiple RIP threads. Back in the day, every time any celebrity died, there would be a new thread that often times didn't even go past page 1. That is why I started the "RIP" thread. We had tons of useless / redundant threads, then the RIP thread was made to just house it all. RM's big graveyard. 40+ pages later it was going great until spenno made this thread.
I don't give a rat's ass where it's housed (GD/A&E/OB/whatever), but there is really no need for multiple celebrity RIP threads. We only need one.

Because I use View Active Topics instead of going into individual subforums, I see RM as one big mess of a forum. So the multiple RIP threads stick out more.
Everyone should do this, by the way.

Team spenno.
If the RIP thread is going to be a catch all for musicians, entertainers, and all around people of note regardless of discipline, then it should be in GD.

This is perhaps the root of your misunderstanding: this thread is for musicians, not celebrities.
While its scope may catch your Chuck Berry's and (insert very famous musician), it's also (and primarily) for less famous musicians who it would seem absurd to include alongside people who are famous in a more general sense. I'm not advocating for multiple duplicate threads, it's a thread with a specific scope that's different to the thread that exists in A&E.
It's also a place specifically for OB posters, who tend not to frequently visit the other RM forums apart from PJ Chat.
This isn't shtick: I'm genuinely disappointed in your behaviour concerning this thread, I think it's been needlessly disrespectful and petty. It's also, in my view, against the following two "community standards" of RM:
- No harassment or flaming.
- Keep thread discussions on topic and avoid trolling.

Lots of OB regulars, looking particularly at Kevin Davis but also Higgs and others, don't visit GD. This isn't a satisfactory solution, it just ends up being the same situation as advocated for by d_v, only moving it to another forum where lots of us rarely visit. The end result will be posters who might've posted in here just won't use it.

I didn't even realise until now that you started the other RIP thread, I guess that goes provides some context as to why this one thread in OB caused such an otherwise inexplicable reaction.
This thread doesn't threaten the supremacy of your thread, I see them as serving different purposes for a different audience.

I think part of the problem is that a lot of people, myself included, just use the Active Topics feature instead of visiting individual subforums, so having two RIP threads show up just seems like redundant, confusing clutter.
