This seems like a different performance completely. I love these PJ songs ( I havent read the setlist besides the first couple because I wanted to be surprised, so maybe it changes later) but this seems like a general PJ soft concert, which is great, because I love that side of PJ.

But Unplugged was them showing they could rock so hard with so much passion and intensity even when playing acoustically. It really made Eddie stand out. This Benaroya performance seems like what most bands tend to do with the Unplugged from what Ive seen from AIC and Nirvana, whereas PJ did something different and amazing with theirs.

Like the end part of Alive blew my mind Unplugged. Also why the heck has PJ forgot how to have a cool groove? LISTEN TO THIS. It takes them a couple bars to really get into it, but when they are it's like O__O. It might be Dave A idk. But the verses are blowing my mind, this laid back acoustic groove with Eddie's POWER over the top of it. Its also a nice reminder that Even Flow just might be the best PJ song or certainly one of them, which is easily forgettable because PJ doesn't remember anymore why it's good in the first place.

Also one more...This video from 3:00 on. The intensity in Eddie is like reaching my heart. And he's fascinating as a performer, you can't take your eyes off of him. The acoustic solo is badass.

Listen to 4:00-4:15 he's an animal! And then the band rocks so hard after that the crowd gets riled up.

Basically Unplugged's stripped back sound creates a perfect space to be filled in by Eddie, who is in top form. It's very much the Eddie Vedder (and Dave A) show but Eddie is so good here that that's fine. Though I honestly think the little guitar fills done in these performances impressed me more than they do when they usually play these songs.

Oh the only bad thing, is he can never sing Oceans. Oceans is always embarrassing. Eddie can't make it sound good live even in 1992! Its like all the mood dies instantly every time he struggles with the OOO's

Ok back to Benaroya.

WTF Lowlight is so slow its like physically hurting me, but I think this is notable as like the only time I've ever seen Pearl Jam take a song BELOW tempo so props to Matt I guess for that one.

Edit: Lol eventually they go out of sync and I cant tell if Stone is trying to pick it up or drive it even slower, but Eddie ignores him whichever it is

Should I put these thoughts somewhere else? I dont know what to do with them...but Im clogging up my own topic .

But I just want to say that first of all I love Thumbing My way, and second of all, I still feel like somebody in this band is trying to drag these songs majorly backwards in tempo which is the opposite of how I always feel about Pearl Jam, so that's confusing. Eddie?

Edit: I bet Matt Cameron is trying really hard not to fall asleep. TMW sounded great mostly though.

I really did like the rocking vibe of the unplugged set. To me, that could be one of the definitive versions of Porch. I enjoy Even Flow and SOLAT too, but I've heard other version I greatly prefer.

I would love for them to work some more acoustic sets in with their older age, but still play some rockers during it. Some of the mid-tempo numbers could be interesting, like Help Help or Insignificance.

MTV Unplugged captures something so sorely missing from PRAMG PJ, pure unbridled passion for the music. This wasn't sing-a-long with PJ, this was "we have something to say" PJ. While I'm sure the members are more accomplished musicians now individually, they pale as a band that was in unplugged.

Agreed. The focused passion of unplugged is fantastic.

never stop posting mikejasond...you analysis of nirvana's unplugged is quite interesting.

This is the performance that sucked me in. The intensity was jaw dropping.
I had Ten. Knew their music. But this performance knocked me on my ass.
While now, looking back as many have mentioned, it isn't their most accomplished acoustic set, it seems to me it was their statement at the time.

PJ always step up on the big stage. The VMA's, Unplugged, The Who thing. I really don't care much about this whole RoRHoF shite except I hope they perform well.
