But quite common in the fact I hate all three.
two out of the three are
brilliant God-awful

at this point i will settle for lyrics that aren't embarrassing to say out loud and songs that sound like they were played by people in the same room at the same time.

Hell, I'd settle for the latter.

I'd like them to get uncomfortable again. I want them to write artful, thoughtful, challenging music. They don't have to reinvent the wheel, but no more "PJ by the numbers" cock rock and pussy love ballads. The moodier the better.

Their last attempts at moody haven't been great.

Oh man. Remember that sound check leak of Infallible and we convinced ourselves it was going to be awesome.

I remember that clearly. Oddly enough, I think the verse sections of Infallible are/is some of the better material from the last two albums. Too bad the chorus is so lame.

That could either bring out a newfound creativity and be excellent, giving hope that PJ still has a career ahead of them. Or, if it sucks, it will prove that PJ is dead. Deader than dead. I'm ready to know for sure.

the lyrics on the last two albums are pretty on par with the writing throughout their career, barring the high water marks of vitalogy and Binaural (excluding soon forget and many of the /jeff songs). pretty typical pearl jam lyrics - which is not a critique. a few clunky lines here and there but interesting themes, songs in conversation with each other, and lots of striking moments

What I want;
Passion from all members.
Unleashing Mike.
Some interesting two guitar interplay.
Songs that fit the current state of Ed's vocals.
Production with some dirt.
What I don't want;
Ed finger picking songs.
Maudlin lyrics.
Sounding like they're trying to be relevant or trying to get a song on the radio.
BOB producing.

I agree with Stip. Lyrics are the last of my worries.

I just want them to released all their previously unreleased songs. There have got to be more from the early and middle years. Fuck a new album, those vault songs would be way better than any new music.

ed has definitely had some clunkers in the past but the lyrics on lb are atrocious. my father's son and sleeping by myself are the only ones that don't make me cringe.
