I hate that song too.

"Yellow Moon" is okay. I feel like it's one of those songs that I'd like better if it were a little grittier -- it has a bluesy center that has more emotional potential than the clinical production job affords it (though really it's probably more an arrangement thing than a production thing, as live versions don't really improve on it much). I like the nod to Neil Young's "Helpless."

"Let the Records Play" would have been a fun B-side, not all dissimilar to "Gremmie Out of Control" or something of the sort. But "LB" isn't a strong enough album to sustain something like this on the back end.

"Swallowed Whole" is a strong composition -- it swerves in and out of standard-issue new-agey solo-Eddie cliches, but musically it's satisfying and well-put-together. It's among my favorite "LB" songs. Easy vote for me.

I think I'm gonna need an entire long-form 33 1/3 style essay on Swallowed Whole, written by Kevin Davis, before I can begin to understand the song.

Obviously, I'm kidding. I think I just need to sit down with the song like I used to do back in the day when I didn't have a billion options for distraction. Just put on some headphones, get out the lyrics sheet, sit on the floor and listen to it six or seven times in a row and really focus in on what's happening in the song. Not force an appreciation, per se, but really dive in and give it a lot of dedicated attention and see what happens.
