Big fucking deal. Nothing new here. 10 months from now, BOB will need a down payment for his next vacation house and he'll start cold calling them and round them all up for two majestic weeks of hastily constructed ideas holed up in the beverly hills hilton and the cycle will repeat itself.
Really insensitive, but that line about Mike made me laugh.

In Atlanta get a lot "I didn't know they were still together" when I mention I'm a fan.

I can't imagine a real-world situation that would involve me mentioning I'm a PJ fan.

I had a few "desert island discs" type conversations on dates.

I take issue with anyone that says the last 3 albums were "half-assed" in any way. If there's any criticism to be made, it's that they may have been OVER-thought. The records alot of people here love - Vitalogy, No Code, Riot Act and lots of Lost Dogs cuts - were actually 1 or 2 take songs. Very little time spent fleshing them out. In many cases, those aspects give the songs a rawer and more spontaneous quality. I'll buy that argument. The last 3 records, it's extremely clear, to me atleast, that they thought through every second that appears on these albums - especially Backspacer.
So, I suppose the argument is that they don't release material as frequently as you may want. I'd say go back and make the appropriate comparison to their peers. Which of their peers (bands who had to get along and schedule) - of those who were able to survive - were able to release music year after year after year late into their career. That would be the fair comparison.

Very few bands make it to the 25 year mark, so there's not much to compare to.

So, what that tells me is ... that shit aint easy.
Some peeps here have got First World Problems - I'd venture to say 999 out of 1000 bands do not get to this sort of point. I'm just glad they're still here.

yeah, i would say its pretty common for bands in this stage to not release a lot of music...i still think they could do it more often. Im a fan of the last 2 albums, and its been what...4 years since lB?

The only difference between them and bands that previously broke up is that some of them have had minor creative resurgences and record more often.

Radiohead took 5 years to make the follow up to what some people call their weakest album, and they created A Moon Shaped Pool
PJ won't do this

Jeff is sitting on a pile of ~25 rock solid demos.
He'll release them with another side project next year.

What exactly are they taking a hiatus from? Playing 8 shows a year and not recording anything?
