I know strat's a good dude.
I certainly didn't come back to get into a feud.
Apologies.

I've met him a couple of times. Nice dude, but he was quick to talk about Jesus.verb_to_trust wrote:I'm more of a Meb guy. I read his book.
He and Dan O'Brien (of Dan and Dave fame) trained together at the Scottsdale Community College track for a couple of years in the early 2000s.
Seemed like an odd pairing.

I take fish oil, vitamin B, and vitamin D... bc we see the sun 9 days a year, and due to our location, the sun's rays don't reach us at this angle to provide any sort of substantial natural vitamin D

not to loop back on a sour subject, but i can't agree with this. a lot of people aren't capable of changing their diets due to dietary restrictions, allergies, sensitivities, physical incapabilities, etc. therefore, supplements and vitamins become essential.run2death wrote:Vitamins and supplements are dumb.
If you aren't getting enough of a certain nutrient, than you should change your diet.

Re: Nutrition, Supplements, Wellness, etc.
By and large, there is no data/proof that the vast majority of vitamins and supplements actually work.
Iron for pregnant women and calcium for older women are really the only supplements that have long-standing efficacy data.
Even the benefits of Vitamin D supplements is inconclusive and ever-changing.
The Vitamin D "latitude theory" referenced earlier in this thread has largely been debunked.

Re: Nutrition, Supplements, Wellness, etc.
yep exactly. things like most mass-produced yogurts in the grocery. they claim to be full of probiotics – and maybe they are – but there's also so much sugar in them that the probiotics just get destroyed and become completely useless.tragabigzanda wrote:Plus there's a ton of misinformation out there, and certain foods make it difficult to absorb nutrients that should be readily available (for example dairy products often interfere with the absorption of other nutrients in a given meal).bodysnatcher wrote:not to loop back on a sour subject, but i can't agree with this. a lot of people aren't capable of changing their diets due to dietary restrictions, allergies, sensitivities, physical incapabilities, etc. therefore, supplements and vitamins become essential.run2death wrote:Vitamins and supplements are dumb.

that icelandic yogurt "Skyr" or whatever is the only one you should eat. But not for nutrition, but because it is fucking delicious.

A bunch of studies (including several from John Hopkins University), the National Institute of Health, several peer-reviewed publications... the usual kind of data-driven studies/research.bodysnatcher wrote:sources? bc my wife works in data-based genetic dietetics for a living, and she'd love to see it.
