Yes.
There's zero chance that's accurate.
Okay fine. People are different and have different aptitudes. I'm sure for some that's a true statement. For me, it's not. But I've never used the fucking program, so I don't know.

I freely admit I'm too soft for rap. Too much aggression, too much alpha chest thumping, too much me me me. Even the brainy hipster shit is too much 'niggas' and 'bitches' and 'I'm oh so brilliant' for me.

I get it. You are empowered. Everyone sucks but you. The Man can't stop you. Anything else?

That and I couldn't care less about lyrics unless they speak directly to me. Poetry set to a beat isn't something I'm really into. I'm not even into poetry in general.

There are exceptions of course. It's just not my thing, but I get other people liking it.

Shockingly, in a Pearl Jam message board, people prefer The Doors over Kanye West.

Living life without the pursuit of cred is much more rewarding, my brother.

Subtract the 'niggas' and you're basically describing a Guns n' Roses record.

Nice post, Burt.

And you bring up some excellent points. Sampling and all that other stuff aside, the misogyny and alpha thumping and even the gratuitous violence to a lesser degree, are all big things that have me leery of rap music. I used to be a giant Eminem fan. But as I grew up and he didn't, it's become harder and harder to listen to him.

The whole Slim Shady persona was one thing. It allowed for a lot of leeway. But now that he's abandoned that and he's still murdering woman, calling them bitches and throwing around the word "faggot" it's just lost all credibility. There isn't a larger social component at play. It's just noise and off-putting.

There's a few niggas in there, too, heh.

People say metal is aggressive, but really it's just aggressive musically, which I'm not even sure is a real thing. Lyrically, its usually more tragic or depressing than anything. Anyway it's far too cartoonish to be taken seriously to me.

I mean, even stuff like Run The Jewels is just a non-stop barrage of insults and anger and self aggrandizing. I'm really just not in the mood to hear a guy scream about how great he is and how angry he is for an entire album.
