Actually the president recently said something along the lines of having to be "convinced" to join the Big 12, citing added travel costs (especially to the most nonsensical member of the Big 12 in WVU) and dramatically shifting the recruiting core from CA to TX. One reason BSU and other Northwest schools like UO and OSU have found success is that CA doesn't have as many traditional powers as TX does, and the NW has tapped that well. I think they want the end game to be the Pac-##, and if the Boise metro keeps growing and their academics keep getting better they'd be the best choice for expansion if they can't stop holding their noses at BYU.

I doubt Nebraska will be able to recruit Missouri and Kansas as well as they used to. Mizzou has done a pretty good job of getting the top players in each of those states for awhile now and especially since the move to the SEC. There is more competition in general for schools. It is not as easy to find an under the radar type player.

On another note, it is quite strange to not have an in state rival to play. Missouri has a population of 6 million and only has one FBS team. I miss the rivalry with kansas.

Historically we do fine in Missouri. We have done pretty well in Missouri recently. We landed the Davis twins this year who are both good DL prospects. Maliek Collins had a good year at DT and he will probably play in the NFL. Our best LB as a true freshman in 2013 was Michael Rose from MO. He was injured in 2014. The staff is high on Freedom Akinmoladun (how badass is that name?) who is current a TE but there is talk he is moving to D End. I'm not expecting to land 5-10 guys a class from MO but 2-3 is realistic. As for Kansas it's pretty similar. Get 2-3 guys a year from there.
I work with a Jayhawker and a K Stater. We reminisce about how glorious the Big 8 was all the time. Sad face. I do like the Big Ten though.

If a coach can ever REALLY lock down Missouri (get like 7-8 of the top 10 players most years) you will be in great shape. I would not call Mizzou a sleeping giant per se but totally a program that can be in the top 15-20 most years. Osborne always said the same thing. You guys lost in state recruits to Oregon and Bama this year. Very underrated HS sports in Missouri. Huskernation has benefited from that in all three major sports.

Lot of it depends on your assistants too. Where their ties are and whatnot.

They are right at the door...42-11 over the last 4 years. The last three years, they have bowl wins over: LSU, Ohio State, and Oklahoma. They are probably a long shot for a playoff appearance, but I think they are a 10 / 11 win team this season. Possibly a 12 win team considering ACC Champ Game + Bowl Game.

The big roadblocks this season are Notre Dame and Florida State. The big trap game is a Thursday night game at Louisville. GA Tech always plays Clemson very tough too, as does South Carolina. I don't see Clemson being 0-5 in those games, but 5-0 probably won't happen either. Those 5 games are pretty much what will determine their season. If the Tigers go 5-0, then win the ACCCG, then that could be their ticket to the playoffs.

I thought about starting up a separate thread for 2015, but what's the consensus here? I've tended to avoid megathreads but it seems like my proactive-ness for the NFL is the minority in the forum these days.

I don't really have a preference. I kinda like a one stop shop for threads, like this and the RIP thread. But...I get that it's more orderly, and current, to have single season threads. So yeah, no real preference for me. Sorry, that probably doesn't help.
