We could be in for a treat.
I could also wake up tomorrow with a giant song.
Anything's possible.

Absolutely. And when did Johnny Guitar become an insult - that song is the highlight on Backspacer. I like the fact that this is a lot looser and less over thought than lightning bolts. From the song lengths and descriptions from the album the next song will be different again.
Imagine what this song would sound like on lightning bolt - vocals overriding the song, Jeff's bass down in the mix and on clean tone, Mike's solo replaced with "patterns", 3 minutes long. On Backspacer, much less dynamic range, thin vocal sound, Jeff even lower in the mix. Too moody for Avocado and too upbeat for Riot Act. Possible Binaural as a sister track to Breakerfall.
For the record I voted this as a 3 though - it is still a middle to below average midsetlist song.
Johnny Guitar sucks - it's a standard midpaced rocker with a dull riff and some howly lyrics by Ed written while he was stoned and staring at a poster on a wall. It's dull, doesn't go anywhere (starts with a weak idea and is forced to fade out) and has that stock 'Ed's gonna shout' parts.
I reckon it would've been a better song if it was half a step slower, had more thoughtful lyrics and soloed out a little better.

I also compared this to Breakerfall, which as it happens is a weak track one imho, as much as I love Binaural
in terms of guitar, I liken this to songs like "Seven Nation Army" by the Strokes, and I didn't care enough about that song to dig into the Strokes' work but it's fine; I'm already invested in Pearl Jam (much less than during RA and before) so PJ doing the Strokes is OK

The Strokes wrote some good low effort throwaway pop. Seven Nation Army was by the Shite Wipes.

Superblood Wolfmoon, took her away too soon
I can hear you, singing in the distance
I can see you when I close my eyes
Once you were somewhere, and now you're everywhere
I'm feeling selfish and I want what's right
I ask for forgiveness, I'm begging myself
feeling angry, now get off the STAGE
Right now I feel, a lack of innocence searching for reveal
hypnotonic resonance I feel
not much of anything, and the cause is life or death
A life of hopelessness, fucks all your focussness
I've been hoping and I hope that lasts
I don't know anything, I question everything
This life I love is going way too fast
Both my eyes are swollen
my face is broken
And I'm hopin that I hurt your
hopin that I hurt your
hopin that I hurt your face
She was a stunner, & I am stunned
And the first thought or second thought was 'could be the one'
I was a prisoner, of keys & the cuffs
Yeah I was feeling fortunate to be locked up
But the world got to spinnin, always felt like it was ending
and love not withstanding we are each of us fucked
I'm in danger, seeing in the distance
I can see you when I close my eyes
Once you were somewhere, and now you're everywhere

I took a shot at this with some edits but I really have no idea in a few spots.

Johnny guitar is probably my favourite off backspacer, but its kind of the last thing i wanted them to rehash. If this was track 9 or 10 or in the big wave/LTRP spot and not a single I would be less concerned.
