Man, what a track, I am getting a Avocado Vibe. It's one of the best tracks they've written in the last 20 years.

I don't get the people comparing it to Avocado. What song on Avocado sounds like it? To me Avocado started that bright rawk sound where this is their groovier grungier 90s sound.

Re: Quick Escape
Obviously it’s Pearl Jam, so it will be reminiscent of several previous albums anyway, but to me the band sounds similar in this song to what they did on S/T. They have moved on from what they sounded like in the early 90s, so to me, no song will sound like Ten/Vs. Especially Ed.
It’s not a copy of any S/T song, but it feels like it has the punch of Big Wave, the energy of Life Wasted, the rock guitars of Severed Hand, the Ed of Army Reserve/Big Wave.

Whether or not this is the best song on the album and whether or not you think it's slightly overrated, admit it: this song gives you the same kind of jolt you got when you first heard one of their old "rockers" for the first time, years ago. The fact they found that in themselves at this point is incredible.

I'm enjoying the album but I can't say this song has given me that reaction, no.guitar_davey wrote:Whether or not this is the best song on the album and whether or not you think it's slightly overrated, admit it: this song gives you the same kind of jolt you got when you first heard one of their old "rockers" for the first time, years ago.

That's fair, but you're definitely in the minority on that, which I know you know.Birds in Hell wrote:I'm enjoying the album but I can't say this song has given me that reaction, no.guitar_davey wrote:Whether or not this is the best song on the album and whether or not you think it's slightly overrated, admit it: this song gives you the same kind of jolt you got when you first heard one of their old "rockers" for the first time, years ago.

Re: Quick Escape
What a fucking cool song. This is heavy Pearl Jam at its best. This is Pearl Jam with actual balls, the kind they were known for.
Why do they keep releasing those stupid happy punk songs when it's not punk, but hard rock where their real talent is found and where they really shine as a band and as individual musicians?
I blame it on Eddie's terrible taste in music, but still, I can't understand why Jeff and Stone let him get away with it.
Anyway, AMAZING song. Lyrics are rather bad (or just meh), but don't bother me that much to ruin the song for me. This song is all about the music anyway.

Re: Quick Escape
I agree with the last post, that Pearl Jam are better as a hard rock band, than whatever it is they are when they go for the punkish numbers. I think that’s why the response to S/T was so positive, because there were several real rock songs on it. An ideal Pearl Jam has a mix between hard rock songs, midtempo songs, and a few slower songs.
But does it sound like Ten/Vs era? No.

This song is fucking great and I love the touchstones. I hear Led Zep, early Kiss, Ziggy Stardust Ronson and Marc Bolan slinkiness, and the shout out to School by Nirvana is great.
I love the tones, the instrumentation, the choices, the energy, the delivery. Oh man.

I also hear a classic RHCP jam between Frusciante/Flea in the final outro.
This songs is awesome I remember a review saying it was very Audioslave and I get that comparison. The first solo is very Morello.
Either way it rocks and Mike and Jeff slay. Ed sounds great the lyrics are a bit more playful than I expected but it works.
