If we're saying where do they place among American, guitar-based, traditional rock bands, then yeah, they're top five for me.
It's hard to say, cause they may be my personal favorite given that very limited definition. But beyond just my personal tastes, can I honestly say they're more significant than Nirvana, The Ramones, R.E.M., The Doors, etc.? I dunno...stip wrote:is one or two beyond the realm of possibility for you. I'm not saying you'd place them there, but does it sound crazy?

If he's not, and we're just talking about American artists from the modern (post-1950) popular music realm, I don't think Pearl Jam is even one of the 20 greatest.@SkitchP wrote:Lament wrote:If we're saying where do they place among American, guitar-based, traditional rock bands, then yeah, they're top five for me.
I think that is the definition the author is using (i hope)

god I hate the ramones. And I'd pretty comfortably put PJ ahead of the doors. I also stand by Nirvana as being too brief, and, if we are to believe the rumors in the Nirvana threads, they were already running low on ideas by In Utero. They'd be a top contender if you were just trying to limit your discussion to bands in their prime.Birds in Hell wrote:*waves hand excitedly*Lament wrote:can I honestly say they're more significant than Nirvana, The Ramones, R.E.M., The Doors, etc.?
