but what does Pearl Jam sound like? They released Backspacer in 2009 - 12 years ago. That's 40% of their career as a band. Maybe this is what they sound like.

I can’t even tell what Eddie sounds like. For his record, we have an earthy sounding quasi stripped down soundtrack (Into the Wild), an album of songs on ukulele, a collaborative folkie soundtrack, and two songs that could nearly be cut off the 80s adult contemporary rock cloth.

to be fair, Eddie doesn't have to "sound like" anything; I don't think solo side projects have the same pressure to create a brand that bands have

Oh agreed. I meant in terms of relegating a sound to solo albums versus bringing them to the band.

Next release will be selective covers: Back to the Future edition. Eddie sings Earth Angel, Johnny B. Goode, and all the Huey Lewis you could have been dreamed of. Cat Power guests as Chuck Berry’s talented cousin.
